The pictured Blade-Tech holster has the exotic name of Belt Holster <-- that's a link ;) It's the IDPA approved model and is molded.

Weapon code is Colt Commander on the drop down menu.

Photos convincing enough? :) Top photo is a genuine Colt's Commander. Next three are a Kobra Carry.

The holster is an exact fit. Pistol is supported and secured by the trigger guard, edge of dust cover (from molding), and at the front of the slide/muzzle. (The 3-1/2" Para Companion fits there too but is too short to be supported at the muzzle. Pistol doesn't seem to care.)

Belt loop is non-adjustable and specific to your belt width. This is 1-1/2".

      Hope this helps.

      RLTW,

      -- Chuck

for a good basic starter holster get the blade tech injection molded kydex holsters. cheap, fast and good.

if you decide you are going to stay in the game, look at the higher end blade tech such as the drop off set for L-10. or the tek lok belt holster, not so cheap, but fast and very good.

from there the skies the limit, there are a bunch of good ones, with prices to match. the cr speed, ghost, limcat, guga ribas, are all very adjustable, secure and fast. about the only holster I would stay away from is the hogue power speed. it's such a pos, I'm surprised it's still around.

but the best advise I can give you is check out your local club, there is usually someone there sell their old rigs.

      Blade Tech

I have been using the same Blade Tech kydex (not Revolution) belt holster and double mag pouches with my P-II for about 10 years. They still retain all the speed and security of when they were brand new. I regularly use them for USPSA, IDPA, tactical training, and range instruction. Both are tension adjustable. My P-II's front cocking serrations shaved off just a tiny bit of the inside kydex at first, but it soon stopped leaving no real damage at all. I couldn't recommend them more highly for your particular needs.

      Holster:

Judging from the website's pictures, the mag pouch design appears to have changed slightly from what I bought 10 years ago. Maybe someone can chime in on the mag pouches.

As far as leather vs. kydex goes, kydex will wear bluing faster. However, leather will wear bluing, too. My blued stinger has been carried in leather exclusively since I bought it. It's my daily CCW gun and gets drawn and reholstered practically every day. The gun shows wear. Keeping the holster and gun dust-free will slow wear, but nothing can prevent it entirely.

Looks like a basic blade tech holster would work out for ya. Their site lists that they make a holster that accomodates a GP100, up to 6". Since this model holster shows it covering the slide of the pictured firearm, I would certainly assume it would have the same design and cover the entire barrel of the ruger as well. Plus they have the holster available in either a belt attachment model, or a paddle model. Hope this is the type you're looking for, good luck.

I had seen that one, but the "up to 6" makes me think its either a short holster that the barrel would stick out the bottom of or a long one with more material than I need. I want one that will fit the 4" and cover the barrel entirely.

      Guys,
Recently got a Kobra 5" SS
      http://forum.1911forum.com/showthread.php?t=349635

I then ordered a SRB Bladetech holster
      http://www.blade-tech.com/SRB-Sting-Ray-Belt-Holster-IDPA-Approved-pr-939.html

Seems the beautiful finish is pretty worn after one day with the holster. I guess it's not a big deal since it's my IDPA use weapon and will probably get trashed anyway but... it irks me a bit.
Specifically it's wearing off the matt finish and leaving a very scratched and uneven removal of the matt. Shiny scratches and marks all over the slide.:barf:

Any helpful advice how to prevent it in the future?
Any advice to repair the current damage?

Would recommend Blade-Tech without reservation. My sons and I use these holsters:

      and these magazine pouches:

for XDm, G17, PPQ and Commander 1911. Not one issue to date, very satisfied. Good luck in your search...
Big fan of BladeTech myself although I usually use a Raven Phantom for both carry and matches these days. Several clubs in my area have banned the Serpa holster. I agree iwth many that the problem is with training and not the holster. Unfortunately there are those who haven't trained sufficiently and have caused problems. Rather than run people through a safety check with the holster and make sure they are using it safely, clubs have banned them due to insufficiently trained people using them unsafely. If you have doubts, just contant the club's IDPA director ahead of time and they'll tell you if it's allowed at that club.
