For those who don't know it, PJK stands for Pamela Jane Kassnar. Michael Kassnar, owner of the former Kassnar Imports and KBI concerns, created his model numbers from his relatives' initials. But that doesn't hurt its shooting one bit, heh.
Good to see you over here again Jerry, your expertise and wise counsel is always a welcome addition :D...

For those as yet unfamiliar with jaypee, he's the author of the only practical book documenting the FEG HPs. "Decoding the FÉG Hi-Power" is a must read!

Here are a couple of items to consider, I am sure that others will chime in.

      1) All Browning Hi-powers are made by FN of Belgium, recently assembled in Portugal. The commercial pistols for US sale will be marked Browning, but they are all made by FN. Don't worry about Belgium or Portugal, they are all very well made.

      2) FEG made some clones in Hungary, and some of them are very close to the FN. Some FEG pistols were actually made with counterfeit FN markings. However, not all FEG "Hi-powers" are FN clones, some are internally different, similar to the S&W 39/59 series. Thus it is important that you know what to look for, and jaypee on this forum has published a book on the subject that you can find here: http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...eg hi-power&qid=1458076761&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1

3)There are also Argentine FM models, and they are very similar to the FN ones, but there are also some variations, such as the shorter (think Commander) Detective models. These are highly valued.

      4) There have been a number of Israeli surplus pistols on the market recently, some good and some pretty rough. Most of them clean-up pretty well and make good shooters.

As has been said, they tend to multiply, so beware.

FEG model numbers are the P9, which is a clone of and based upon the Hi Power Type 73, (commercial production from about 1973 until the MKIII was introduced around 1989) sometimes referred to as a classic Hi Power and also referred to as a Pre MKII Hi Power. With small safety, small sights (although some FEGs had larger sights with white dots), and hog nose bushing. Some of the FEG P9s also had a flared grip, others not.

The FEG FP9 was the P9 with the a ventilated rib.

The FEG P9M or modified P9 had the extended safety and altered slide stop.

The FEGs with a S&W operating system are also called P9M, or " improved" P9M.

Check out Jerry Paregien book on amazon Decoding the FEG Hi-Power.

The PJK-9HP was Kassnar and KBIs designations for their imported FEG Hi Power clones. They used the PJK-9HP across most models. If I recall correctly the PJK stands for Micheal Kassnar's wife Pamela Jane Kassnar. Other importers such as CAI used the FEG model designations as well as surplus FEGs.

Not unusual to see the different FEG P9 or KBI PJK 9HP configurations. Some also have flared grips as well as a ventilated rib. I collect FEGs, and have a mixture of configurations with the Browning style safety and slide release, a modified slide release and Browning small safety, FEG extended safety and Browning slide release (like in your top photo) and FEG extended safety and modified slide release.

Who knows why. FEG production and serial numbers are all a mystery.

But as you noted, the cuts in the slide are different, much small notch for the FEG style slide stop. It is my understanding they were manufacturing the different styles simultaneously.

In Decoding the FEG HI Power, author Jerry Paregien calls the FEG P9 with the extended safety and modified slide stop the P9M. Link to Jerry's book

BTW, FEG Hi Power clone triggers can run the full spectrum from god awful to excellent. KBI also sold the PJK 9HP with a Smith and Wesson operating system.

Here are two of my FEGs

Jerry Paregien, known as Jaypee on multiple Hi Power forums recently passed away. Author of Decoding the FEG Hi-Power, and many forum posts about FEGs and Hi Powers.

In my opinion Jerry and his book Decoding the FEG Hi Power was largely responsible for changing many Hi Power enthusiasts viewpoint and impressions on the quality of FEG pistols, and accepting them as a true alternative/option to FN High Powers. He was also greatly responsible for describing the various FEG Hi Power clone models and how to distinguish them.

Jerry was always so willing to share hi knowledge on FEGs either through his early blog and then through his book and continuing with his forum posts. I learned much about Hi Powers through Jerry's posts and his willingness to share. Jerry has nearly 500 posts on the 1911 forum, to view some of them search under his user name jaypee, or follow this link https://www.1911forum.com/search/144765/

Jerry will be missed. My best to his family.

I believe it is Tennessee Guns International. I know they used to import FEGs, as Jaypee referenced the importer in his book on Decoding the FEG Hi Power.

Former Owner/President of Tennessee Guns International, INC. Sentenced in U.S. District Court
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – On Thursday, Mar. 27, 2014, Charles M. Jones III, former owner and president of Tennessee Guns International, Inc. (TGI), was sentenced in U.S. District Court to serve one year of probation and 100 hours of community service as a result of his felony conviction for importation of goods (firearms) by false statements. Jones pleaded guilty to the offense pursuant to a plea agreement last December. The plea agreement also resulted in TGI forfeiting and relinquishing several thousand firearms and firearms parts that were seized from TGI. Significantly, Jones can no longer possess a firearm, since he is now a convicted felon. “It is extremely important that firearms dealers abide by the law in conducting their business, in order to prevent those who are not authorized under law to possess firearms, from obtaining guns and weapons,” said U.S. Attorney William C. Killian. Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Special Agent in Charge Jeffrey Fulton stated, “This conviction and sentence is a reminder that smuggling firearms by a Federal Firearms Licensee into the U.S. is a serious matter and will be vigorously investigated and prosecuted.” “Firearms regulations exist to ensure weapons crossing international borders are properly accounted for to preserve public safety,” said Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) New Orleans Raymond R. Parmer Jr. “This case shows the significant consequences awaiting individuals who attempt to illegally import weapons and who make false claims while attempting to do so.” Parmer oversees a five-state area of operations to include Tennessee, Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi. The conviction was the result of a long-term investigation conducted by ATF, and HSI. Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Todd Martin, as well as Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jeff Theodore and Frank Dale, represented the United States.

Even though I've already purchased S.A. Camps stuff, I never remember the links for newcomers to Hi-Power and Feg Goodness.

This is the Stephen A. Camp Website.
This is his spiral-bound, paperback work - with pics - on the Hi-Power
($31 shipped and worth it, no joke)
This is his Hi-Power Disassembly Guide - laminated, documented, excellent color shots
($10 shipped - again, worth at least that!)
If you've gotten or are interested in the "hp-clone" FEG:
Decoding the FEG Hi-Power, (Jerry Paregien, $6 pbk) is a very good tool.
