...............is what it cost for a CCL in my State, New Hampshire.

There is a background check and if you pass that you are good to go. Just curious as to what the cost and requirements might be for some of my fellow 1911 forum members in other states. My curiosity was aroused today while I was reading "The Bias Against Guns" by John Lott. I read there that in the State of Texas a CCL is $140.00. BTW I am aware that I could glean this info off of www.packing.org/ but I would rather hear about some of the experiences (good or bad) from you folks.

In Pennsylvania it's $19.00 plus the background check and it last for 5 years. I don't know what the renewal fee is yet. You have to go to the sheriff office and get an application, take it home and fill it out and take it back in and pay for it. Also you have to have a small photo of yourself for there files. It took about a month for mine to go through. After that they send a post card telling you whether you got it or not. Then you have to go back into the sheriff office and have your picture taken. It looks like a drivers license when it's done. I don't know what other people would think, but it seems pretty simple to me.

Be a personal friend of the Police Commisioner or Mayor, or a celebrity, or former police officer.

In New York City this is the only way.

For all those of you who live in the land of the free, don't take it for granted.

Here in Nevada you pay around $60 for the CCW course, then take a MO for $105 with you to Metro to cover the background checks, etc. The permit is good for 5 years for residents and 3 years for non-residents. The real pain was the 4 hours in Fingerprinting, where you wait forever to get fingerprints taken, then wait forever again to get your pic taken, then wait forever again to see if everything came out ok. Half of vegas is in this place getting their work cards for the casinos so it's packed! Then you wait 4 months to actually get it!

Western NY state - back in the mid 70's when I got mine, it was $5 application fee and I got it in about 6 weeks. Now I think they also charge $30-40 for background checks and it takes 6 months. Permit is good for life (or till you do something stupid to get it revolked) and there is no annual fee. Adding or deleting a weapon is $3 and a replacement permit is $5.

I think it's pretty similar anywhere outside NYC.

Adding or deleting a weapon?

Here in AZ it runs $100 for the CCW course and $50 for the CCW permit.

Adding or deleting a weapon?
When you buy another gun it has to be added to the CCW, likewise when you sell one, it must come off the permit. About 5 minutes at the county office for them to put the info in their files and type the make and serial # on your CCW.

Maybe it's unique to NY that each weapon must be listed on the CCW

The fee in NY is over $100.00 now, and then you have the $85.00-$95.00 for the required safety course, $3.00 to REGISTER a pistol to your permit, and then in Niagara County you have to pay for a background every 5 years or you are unable to purchase another until you submit for the background check, which took 14 days last time I had it done.
You cannot purchase a handgun without a purchase coupon and they only give you one at a time, although I have never asked for more than one.
The only up side is that there is no waiting period or backgroung check if you have the 5 year background certification.

Some of the recent fun around here includes one judge in a neighboring county pulling CCW permits and downgrading them sportsmen permits (no CCW) anytime a permit holder came in to register a handgun. (Unless you are a LEO or Security)
Also they are pulling pistol permits for most misdemeanors and all felony. Get a DUI and your permit is gone for good!!!!!
As was said earlier, for those who have reasonable laws, enjoy the freedom and be vigilint to keep it!!!!

Wow, so you cannot possess a gun in NY without registering it? That's criminal, and it also sucks. Glad I'm in AZ.

Handguns must be registered, not long guns. Still, not a happy situation!

Montana CCW permits cost $50.00 for 4 years, $25.00 renewal fee, and are issued by the county sheriff. Requirements are completion of a firearms safety course OR a DD Form 214 Military Discharge Certificate.

In Michigan it's $105 with an option for local agencies to charge an extra $15.

In other words $120 for 5 years.

*edit: Plus variable fee for approved training course.

Ten bucks is dirt cheap.

Here in Colorado, it cost me $154.00 for five years of registration for my CCW

plus another $50.00 (got this for a discount, usually $100-150.00) for an NRA approved CCW Instruction Pistol course.

I got the discount as I went during a slow time and when the instructor began to ask me questions, he cut to the chase and we went to the range, shot one tight group and that was that!

Colorado needs money so the lawmakers charge for the fees.

At least I got my CCW from the benevolent legislature and Governor !

$59/4 years and $12 or so to renew in Idaho.

No training, no BS.

I can carry in bars, liquor establishments, and anywhere except k-12 schools (and there with permission of appropriate personnel, which I have when I do computer work for them), jails, and courthouses.

Since I avoid the latter two like the plague, it means I'm good to go everywhere I need to since I don't have kids.

New York City:

Rifle/Shotgun Permit costs $154 and is good for 3 years. You cannot legally own a rifle or shotgun in NYC without it. My wait was almost 8 weeks for it to to be issued.

Pistol Permit: $355 for a premise permit application, but I assume the cost is the same if you apply for a carry permit (which as stated elsewhere, will not be issued to you unless you are wealthy, famous, or connected). I believe the pistol permit is also good for 3 years. I do not know how long it takes to process, but I applied for the premise permit 3 months ago and have not yet received it. The fee is of course nonrefundable whether you are issued a permit or not.

There's no required licensing, fees, or anything associated with raw ownership here.

That $154 buys me a lot of ammo here in the uncultured wilderness.

Texas is expensive-laboreous-time consuming and ya have to take a refresher course ever time ya renew. They do not limit how many ya got with you or the type, if you qualified with a semi auto.
you can vehicle carry without a permit with a few clauses thrown in-but i have never heard of them checking.
That said- you can get it. The background checks are real. They publish on their web how many are denied and taken up. In other words-they do their work.
Texas has always been pretty liberal in their attitude towards weapons, handguns and long guns. Most agencies are pretty aware that many citizens have them and i have never been hasseled or searched for any i carried.
There was a time when most of em figured that almost everbody had one with em--that was a time not too long ago, and still today it's the same way, outside the big cities.
Hope this helps.
