The Pachmayr grip slightly changes the effective front strap dimensions, but grips of varying thicknesses also change the grip slightly (one of the nice things about 1911s). Many shooters use the Pachmayr grips or apply grip or skateboard tape to their front straps, but I would prefer to have the front strap checkered. I prefer 25lpi or 30 lpi checkering to 20lpi, although 20lpi is grippier. Some shooters prefer stippling, serrations, golf balling, snakeskin, etc.
