Help!

I want a compensated 1911 in 10mm. What's the best way to do this? Is it as easy a slapping a 10mm barrel in a .40 caliber 1911? Will relability be compromised? Who are the 10mm experts in the industry? I need an eduation and some direction on this topic. Any advice would be appreciated.

Actually, 1911's chambered in .40 have their reliability compromised, because the cartridge is so much shorter than the round for which the gun was developed. Most IPSC guys load their .40's quite long, and use 10mm mags, so that their gun will run. The .45 ACP, .38 Super and 10mm are all about the same length, and the 1911 runs great in those calibers. Ed Brown is a fan of the 10mm cartridge, but he doesn't do much in the way of comp guns. STI would probably be your best bet.

I have a Caspian raceready frame and slide with a nowlin 6in bbl with a custom comp. I use it exclusively for Pins. I am running 155jhps and 180jhps in it with a 15lb recoil spring. Other than putting an aftec extractor in it, I have done nothing to it since coming back from the smith.
I would recommend either SDM Fabricating.com or Pinnacle-guns.com. Both Scott and Mark can build you what you want, I know I have had both guys build me guns and they are tops.
Feel free to email me for further info. Good luck, and I personally have not had a FTF with my gun in over 1k at this time. I am really anal about my reloads though also LOL! Good luck, and I think the 10mm is the ultimate cartridge also. DC
