Hi Guys,

After beating my head against the concrete i give.

Anybody had any luck with coming up with mags that will work with a 1911 in 357 sig?

I have tried most, timed most of them, and all I keep getting is the mag to seem to "set", so when the round is in the process of chambering,it smacks into the feed ramp and stays there.

The ramp has been polished and all that.

Anybody had any luck?

Thanks,

You need more than just a 40 S&W mag. If you look at mags for necked cartridges, there are usually a vertical groove at the top front to keep the bullet nose from dipping when it's at the top of the mag. Despite assertions from bullet makers that necked cartridges feed more reliably, gun and mag mfgs will tell you otherwise.

Thanks guys.

I've done the 40cal mag and spring.

kbear brings up a good point, with the groove.

Maybe we'll give a rounded follower a try?

Kbear... Having a dimple, or something on the follower to keep the last round sitting properly on the follower is one thing...

That doesn't do anything for all the rest of the rounds though.

Kevin, you didn't say when the problem was happening, only the last round, or randomly with any round chambered.

The follower on a 357 Sig Glock mag does appear a little different from a 40 follower, but a 40 mag should work. The feed lips might need to be adjusted, to release the case sooner, but I really couldn't say, I'd have to examine the timing.

I would be inclined to look at the Ramp, while polishing is important, the ramp profile is going to be critical. The profile is much different for a 45 vs. a 38 Super, or 9mm, and the same applies to the 40's.

If the ramp profile is currently tuned for 40, some adjustment might be needed for the 357 Sig. Of course, this is the time when a ramped barrel might come in handy.

Kevin, you could try modifying a follower to prevent the top round from "nosing", but I would guess that you might get some with the other 8 above it.

Good luck...

Thanks guys.

All the polishing is done, dont know how far I'd want to cut the ramp at this point, but I might try a little (and then test fire one round with a pair of steel gloves on).

And it may just be I throw a 40 cal barrel in this thing and get to work with some folks on followers for 357 sig. We'll see.

jaydee, it sticks randomly,no rhyme or reason to wich round in the mag---I have run 3 clips with no problems, feel happy, and then all the sudden ccclllllllliiiiiiiiiiiinnkkkk.

I have a Brown 40 mag coming. I'll see what happens with it,then mess with the ramp from there. And of course then mess with the barrel.

Oh well, gotta try something new every once in a while!
