Hi I'm new to the 1911 pistols and I want to know if 1911 pistols are reliable right out of box since I dont want to customise my pistol because I need it only for home and personal defence and not for competitions. I just keep hearing that 1911's are not reliable unless you customise them extensively and what's the point of that??? I dont want to turn to Glock since I shoot 1911's better, but reliability counts more. So please let me know what's the big deal on customising 1911 pistols. I'm writing from Finland. P.S. Comparing Norinco to SW1911, which do you recommend.

Welcome to the forum. It's generally accepted that some brands might be better than others in a general sense, but that any company can and does produce lemons every now and then. I have a Rock Island and a Springfield milspec that were absolutely perfect, right out of the box.

Between the Norinco and the S&W, I'd chose the Norinco. They're built to a loose GI spec which tends to make them very reliable.

Good luck and happy shooting! :D
