I recently bought a couple of new in the wrap Military Surplus 7rd mags. No one seems to use them on this forum. I was going to pick up a few more at the gun show this weekend. Are they not as good as say Meg-gear? I always thought if you bought Military Surplus mags you couldn't go wrong, or is that only with rifles-AR-15, M-14 etc. mags? Thanks

Well here is someone who does actually use GI contract mags.

I've had very good luck with them, and in fact, I have even used them in competiton (along with my 8rd CMC Shooting Stars.)

With one particular contractor there was a problem of faulty baseplate welds failing and dumping the mag's contents.

There was a lot of discussion about this on the forum earlier in the year.

Do a search for more info.

Like you, I picked up some of these at a show- 3/$18.00 plus a few others acquired here-and-there.

They have been very reliable and I've had no problems whatsoever.

I had Mec-Gar mags for my Sig 220 and BHP.

They too worked flawlessly and were reasonably priced.

I eventually plan to buy some for my 1911's too and I don't expect any problems.
