I just bought one of the new Colt M1911a1 yesterday and found something that I think might be wrong with it.The slide lock safety can be pushed up just enough (but not all the way) to keep the slide from being pulled back without the hammer being cocked. This doesn't happen on my springfield. Is this normal or did I get a defected pistol? Please help me.

I have seen this "problem" on pistols before, so I don't think it constitutes a defect. Your thumb's on the safety when you're shooting anyway, isn't it? You might want to refer to the part as the thumb safety or slide LOCK safety, since the slide stop is a distinct part.

I just checked my LWT commander and it does it also. It's a none issue tho. I shoot with my thumb under the safety and I've never accidentally activated it.
