I bought a NIB 1991 commander NRM. Found a Wilson drop in grip safety. The tang ears on the frame appear to be rounded to a .250 curve. Is this posible on a NIB gun or has this been modified by someone else.

I have put a Wilson drop in beavertail grip safety on my ORM 1991 goverment with no problems. Whats up with this.

Yep, that's correct. Wilson makes a drop in beavertail for Commanders with the rounded tangs. The same Commander Style beavertail also fits Enhanced Gov't Models, the ones with the funky Colt Duck Bill beavertails.

The Commander tangs are rounded, compared to a Government Model '91A1, but they are not cut on a .250" radius by the factory. You will need the Wilson safety that is intended for the Commander. The one that fits the Commander also fits all the enhanced and XSE models, but you need the Government Model safety for the 5" M1991A1, older Gold Cups, etc.
