Anyone who has purchased a .22 conversion (Wilson Combat, etc.) for your 1991 knows that they will not hold the slide back after the last round has been fired.

It does not seem impossible to design a .22 mag that will have the same operational function of a normal .45 and provide the ability to activate the slide stop.

Can anyone provide more information on this topic, or if a solution has been discussed?

Well, Colt managed it in the Ace(s) and original floating chamber conversions.
But - do you really want a steel slide stop popping up into a notch in your aluminum Ciener (Wilson, Kimber) conversion slide?
