You didn't mention your objective in the OP!

For plinking any of the recognized brands will do. For marksmanship/ Gallery Bulls-eye, the Nelson/Marvel conversion on a dedicated receiver holds it's own against the venerable M41!

He did say fun and reliable.
Fun covers all the .22/1911 conversions! Reliable, my Nelson/Fusion hasn't missed a beat in Gallery Bulls-eye!

For what it costs it better not miss a beat and should load it's own mags. The Browning is very reliable plus it is smaller, lighter and just plain out fun for anybody, any age or physical strength. I'm glad you like bullseye shooting but shooting paper bores me to tears. I like to see or at least hear something happen.

I wanted one as well, but feedback from shooters here was the walther type 22s and the full on kimber 22 were aluminum and did not feel like a 45. I ended up getting a silver kimber conversion and a colt ACE pistol ( found a killer deal on one). The kimber conversion I put it on a blued Smith & wesson 45 to make a sweet two tone 22 pistol, which is quite accurate and pleasnt to shoot. It feels more like a 45. The Colt ACE service pistol was a bit of a surprise, the pistol has the planned floating chamber, but recoil was a surprisingly brisk. For a 22. We shoot a lot of steel plates, a falling plate machine and dueling tree. Grand kids can't shoot them yet but are practicing with the smaller P-22 guns.

You must have shot a lot of perfect scores to get that bored! :)'s

I'd agree that the Browning 1911-22 being what appears to be an excellent pistol. I owned one of the early ones and I could not get it to make it through a mag without issue. It was a bummer. I'm glad others have had better experiences. As the size and function of it was awesome.

No, I just never liked it. There's nothing fun about punching holes in paper. I don't have to have perfect scores to have fun. I don't have to have the most dead nuts accurate gun to have fun altho I've got a couple of rifles that would fill the bill but I haven't shot either of them in years.

Mrs bought her a Browning Black Lable 1911 22 a couple of years back, very nice shooter with fiber optic sights & fits her hands well. My biggest gripe is how light it is, at 14ozs it makes for a great camp carry/plinker pistol but maybe not the best bullseye pistol for me.

I have been quite satisfied with my GSG 1911 22Lr pistol. it has a similar heft and feels like a regular 1911. Fortunately with 22's you don't have to clean it very often as it is something of a pain to take apart for a good cleaning. But it has been great fun when I go out shooting as the little 22's cost a lot less than the .45 ACPs do.

A .22 pistol for the fastidious for it's best to clean the pistol after each use and after 200 rounds it may become balky. Also, one has to be willing to determine which loads it likes for it is frustrating to use with a load that it doesn't prefer. A properly pampered Colt Ace can be one of the most gratifying was to do .22 in a handgun. This one likes CCI Standard Velocity .22 Long Rifle ammunition or similar and will perform like a show pony with such ammunition. I've heard they don't have a reputation for accuracy, but I'm still trying to determine if that is so.
I have one as well although mine is not in such a nice condition.

I use it quite regularly and while it’s not a match pistol, I think it’s a lot more accurate than people give it credit for.

Early 80's I had a Colt Woodsman but just couldn't warm up to it. Went to a gun show and saw a Colt Service Model Ace. Made a deal, Woodsman for the Ace. This is a accurate shooter and gave me the best practice when I was shooting IDPA with my Wilson Combat.
