I've looked around a bit and have'nt come up with an answer to how much velocity I will lose with my Kimber shooting 230 gr factory HP's. I realize I'm not providing brand name info and such, just wondering about a generic loss of FPS from 3 1/2" officer model to the 3" Ultra Carry.

I always heard that you lose approximately 100 fps for every inch in barrel length loss.
So I guess you would lose somewhere around 40-50fps. ????? I'm no expert.

Have experience with three Ultra-Elite's in hand for ammo development.

230g JHP's at 750fps; standard loads seemed to hover around 680-720fps av.

Gold Dot, Starfire, Ranger SXT, Hydra-Shok all work as slow as 650fps'ish.

Ok thanks, but are suggesting that those premium rounds are downloaded? Or is that just the lowest you have recorded them at. I get a deal on the Win white box 230gr JHP personal protection. They "appear" to have more felt recoil, which I attributed to slightly hotter load.

somewhere on http://greent.com/40Page/
is an article titled "Effect of Barrel Length on the Velocity of .45 ACP Cartridges" worth looking at. It seems very insignificant, and from what I understand many tests have shown extremely little to NO difference in ultimate performance from the shorter barrel.
