A friend's 625 went down and now he's going to try IDPA Classifier with .357 Mag and 180's to make 165 PF. He goes back to work in Dutch Harbor next week and he only has a few more days to make his 5 Gun Master before he leaves. I don't yet have my 625 back, so we're going to try it with .357 Mag in Ruger GP-100. Anybody have a good load using Red Dot powder and Sierra jacketed projectiles?

Sierra does not offer Red Dot loads

But Alliant has some data:

158g JSP / 6.0g MAX

158g LSWC / 5.5g MAX

170g FMJ / 5.4g MAX

180g JFP / 5.3g MAX

200g LRN / 4.6g MAX

All loads used Federal 200.

I suggest a 'slower' powder choice; I have data.

Sierra 180 w/ 5.4 Red Dot was keyholing from 4" Ruger GP-100.

Hornady XTP 180 w/ 5.4 Red Dot did well with excellent accuracy (20 yard barricade groups rapid fire of 3 inches or less) but he still didn't make it. Trying again tonight.

It's a pretty nice shooting load for those interested. Very mild recoil and almost no flash or blast.
