I've been hearing bad things about AA #7, and I just ran out of it, anyway; what's a good alternative for loading mid-range 10mm loads? I don't need to get 1400fs with 155's; 1200 is fine. 3N37 looks pretty good; any other suggestions? What about for full power (200/1200, 180/1300)?

Sorry, but I haven't heard anything bad about it and tend to use it or #5 all the time in my 10mm loads. Maybe someone else will have an alternative.

Same here, I really like #5 and was thinkin' about movin' through the line...What did you "hear"? ..and from whom?

Only bad thing about #7 that I know about is that it is a tad bit dirtier than other powders. Works great on full power 10mm loads.
Having said that, try Power pistol, Win Super field and Ramshot "Silhouette"(formerly packaged as Win. Power pistol WAP). I used Power pistol for full power 10mm pinloads, 200s and 220s, and found that WAP/silhouette gave me the same velocities with a softer feel(IMHO of course)
I use WAP/Silhouette for my open 9x23/steel loads and all 10mm loads, makes my powder selection much easier. Good luck, DC

I read (can't tell you where) that the firing residue of #7 consists partially of aluminum oxide. A very experienced IPSC shooter told me she wore out the first half-inch of a barrel with a few thousand rounds of #7-powered loads. The truth/accuracy of the former doesn't concern me as much as the latter.

I've fired at least 20,000 rounds of #7 powered 10mm loads through my S&W 1006 with no noticable barrel wear. It also meters very well.

WARNING!!! - DO NOT USE Accurate Arms #7 to reload 460 Rowland. The new lots AA#7 Powder are now being manufactured in South Africa instead of Czechoslovakia and have totally different properties.

Any thoughts on this?
