If all things are otherwise equal, I'd get the 70 series. Just me though, others may well disagree.

I'll play devil's advocate since I have a Gold Cup made in the late 70's.
The blueing and polish are excellent, but the "fit" with the slide/frame and bbl are not great. It has broken many parts and is not as accurate as my ugly 1991A1 with a match bushing.
As a "shooter" you might be better off with a new Gold Cup.
Apparently the have a better fit and accuracy as recently tested in American Handgunner.
Of course, that's my Gold Cup, the one you are looking at may be different.

I currently own both, a blued 70 series Gold Cup and a Gold Cup Trophy. Although I appreciate the nostalgic value of the 70 series, and the lines and finish are superb, when it come to shooting, the Trophy will shoot rings around my 70 series. Others may not find this to be true, but this is my experience with my guns. IMO, current Colts are hand down the best in many, many, years.

I'd pick a pre-70-series National Match over a current Trophy, but the Trophy over the 70 series. Just my personal preference.
