I have several in each caliber. There is no BAD recoil in either caliber. I do however shoot the 9mm more accurately than the .45. I also believe big hoes are better, but don't have any problem believing that well placed 9mm holes would just as effective.

I enjoy both but probably prefer the 9. If I only had one 1911 with no plans to get another, I would probably get the 45, just because that's where it started. My wife dislikes my 45 but likes the 9mm, both full size. She likes the 1911 9 mm much better than my glock. I don't have a Taurus so no opinion on a specific model.

With the Taurus PT-1911, I prefer 38 super myself. Sadly, that's my wife's 1911 and she ain't giving it up.
