Have a STI Duty 5 in 9MM that needs a new primary recoil spring. The spring is quite a bit shorter then traditional recoils springs. What size is it? Officer size? STI recommends 10 LBS, the one that came with the Duty 5 seams light. What weight do you use?

I use a 12Lb in my dan Wesson full sized 1911s. My Les baer came with a 13lb from the factory.

My STI has the Recoil Master a two spring system. A full length recoil spring will not fit, it is much to long.

I would call STI and find out. I haven't replaced the recoil spring in my recoil master, but if I wanted to, I would start by calling them and just getting the exact replacement.

It is a proprietary spring specifically for the recoil master. I ordered some for my 9mm Sentinel Premier from Brazos. Dawson has them also.

Anyone know if this spring is just a regular full size 1911 spring that has been cut down?

The springs I got from Brazos have not been cut down. They are closed at both ends and are tinted green to designate light action.
