I have around 1000 rounds through my Stainless Target and the rear blade of the adjustable sight will not stay tight, It almost fell apart at the range this week. My question is does anyone make a fixed sight that would fill in the void of the machining in the top of the slide? Sounds stupid, but questioning the need for adjustable sights. If no fixed sight is available, should I send my slide in and have Kimber put a new one on or should I fork out $60 to have Bomar's put on? Am I better of spending $60 on proven Bomar's or $?? in shipping, only to have my next Kimber sight fall apart at 1000 rounds? Sorry for being long winded, but I am getting a little frustrated with the sights, and even more disappointed in my decision to by the target instead of the custom. Gun works great.

Call Brownell's tech support line (641)623-5401. Those guys can tell you what sights would fill that void. Once you have the list of possible replacements, you can have them patch you right on thru to the order department and get one on the way.

Good luck. Let us know how it turns out!

Sadly, no, there is no fixed sight that will fit the Cut on the Target. You are pretty much stuck with a Kimber, the Bomar, or having the slide welded, and recut. Sucks, I know, I have been considering alternatives for 2 years with mine. I haven't haad any problems with mine, thankfully, and will consider the Bomar BMCS-K if I do.

After I found these things out, I had wished that I had gotten a fixed sight Kimber instead... Oh well...

I just must be lucky, my Stainless Target has been going strong now for three years of competition and the rear sight is just fine. I have to cold blue it every now and then, but holding up quite well. (Watch it fall off next week.
)

Jaydee, you should have just bought both guns like I did.

Doesn't the Colt XS and XSE fixed sights require much the same slide cut? I still say call Brownell's, they can get to the bottom of this.

Nope... The XS cut is somewhat "Novak'ish", although IIRC, the dovetail is angled incorrectly for a direct replacement by Novak sights.

The XSE is more along the line of the standard Government blade site, and has no relief cut milled into the slide to lower the site, just a dovetail.

The critical difference with the Kimber cut is the difference in angle of the dovetail, and the location of the dovetail. Also, the further relief at the very rear where the blade and drift adjustment "buries" into the slide. That profile differ's from a standard Bomar, while the dovetail is different from the Para LPA sight, IIRC.

Hey jaydee -

Know of any local (bay area) smith that can install the Bo-Mar replacements for my Kimber Custom Eclipse II?

My Stainless Target is on its way back today from MD Labs. Steve did a weld and recontour and then put the Ashly Express sights on it.

Un-like John, I have had fits with the sights on mine. I had the rear blade shear off mid-shot... the day BEFORE a state championship. Just shooting and the sight just snapped. Kimber took care of it by sending a replacement to my smith to replace the one he used from his inventory to get me to the match.

But according to MD Labs, there were no easy replacements for that Kimber adjustible sight because of the weird cut they use. Mine is now welded up and has the MD Labs TefCoat coating on the slide.

Now if UPS would just GET here already...

If my new sight breaks again, I will consider what you just had done. Or I will get it fixed and sell the thing and get a fixed sight gun.
Mark, it sounds like you are frustrated & I certainly don't blame you! But, if you do indeed feel the gun shoots great except for the sight problem & you don't want to have your slide welded up to fit a fixed sight, I would seriously consider the Bo-Mar adjustable that is a replacement fit for the Kimber adjustable. Bo-Mar has an excellent reputation for quality & you would probably be very happy with their product. Any sight upgrade on a factory fixed sight gun will run you as much money, or more - especially if you had to have the slide machined.
