Can anyone recommend a good manual or all-around guidebook for all things 1911, but mostly fieldstripping, maintenance, etc.?

The Colt .45 Automatic: A Shop Manual

by Jerry Kuhnhausen

Probably the best. There are two volumes to it.
EXCELLENT book!

Another vote for Wilson. It's relatively small, good quality color photos and the text makes sense. Cheap, too.

Shane tipped me to the Wilson Book, and I think it's the perfect 'first book' for 1911 pistols. Complete detail-stripping with color photos and much information on inspecting, tuning and maintaining the 1911.

Kuhnhausen's book should be the next.
