Anyone using a Springfield XD Pistol?

Greetings,

Well, I searched, then I searched again, and I couldn't find any posts dealing with Springfield's XD line of pistols. (And, no I would not be surprised if there was one that I couldn't find.)

I am the happy owner of a new Mil-Spec, and I'm thinking about my next purchase. I'm thinking about personal home protection and the rest of my family, so I'm looking at a high-capacity 9 mil. The Glock 34 looks great and has a capacity of 19 rounds. (31 with a special magazine.)

That's when I started looking at Springfield's XD pistols. I read an on-line article from Shooting Times that said they thought the XD was built better and cost less. It said that the XD had metal trigger and sights, but the Glock had plastic trigger and sights.

Anyone have any experience with these pistols?

I have an XD-9. It fits my hand perfectly. Runs 100% of the time. Cheap to shoot. Fun to shoot. Shoots where I point it. Does not feel like a 2 X 4 in my hand like a Glock does (not that Glocks are not fine weapons, they just don't fit in my hand). It was my first hand gun and I will probably never sell it.

The range I frequent has one as one of their rental guns. Check to see if your range has one and if so try it. You will like it.

My buddy got one, an XD in 9mm. He had to get the 9mm size due to he is a private investigator and they are limited to what they can carry. So anyway he loves his and this is coming from a hard core Glock guy. Before PI he carried a Glock 21 for years. He likes the XD better for several reasons. He was telling me that the grip is much more like a 1911 and with the grip safety on it as well, he likes the light rail option and the new round check feature. He told me he already has 1,500 rounds through it and I have no doubt that he is closer to 2,500 by now through the gun with not a problem one. The pkg he got was the XD, with 3 clips, and what I consider a cheesy holster for $490.00 or $495.00 can't remember from his FFL in Florida! My guy here in Missouri has that same pkg for $430.00.

I've had an XD-9 for about 3 years and it still is the one I put in my nightstand as it has nightsights and a rail to slide my M6 light/laser on not to mention 15 rds. of 9mm. I shoot mine very well, recoil is negligent which makes followup or rapid shots easy to do, also. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend one to anybody but if you can find one to shoot prior to purchase, that would be the thing to do. Everyone's idea of a comfortable fitting firearm is not the same. That's why there's so many wonderful choices out there. I still carry my Kimber during waking hours but at night I like having the light on my XD.

The XD's are a good equivelant to the Glocks. In it's basic form they're the same pistols anyway. If you want to get one I'd recommend the the XD long slide 5 " form in 9MM. That would be the same as the Glock model 34. I've been looking for one of these versions to set along side of my Glock 34. I was told the XD long slide s scarse.

I have an XD 4" in 9x19. It's a nice little gun. Points a lot like a 1911, the controls are good (I like the ambi mag release), and overall, has some features up on the Glock (steel sights, dovetailed front, grip safety, ambi mag release, easier takedown, etc.). The Glock has a more proven track record, though, so I'd go with whatever one fits your hand better. I like my XD, though, and don't see myself getting rid of it any time soon.

I have one in a 40sw, 5" slide. I had bomars install along with a Barsto barrel, trigger work and a narrower front sight. Before the upgrades, I was shooting a 150 pf with 180 gr bullets and a 14lb spring in the gun. The gun shot very well. With 165 pf, a 21 or 22 spring worked well.
I can not comment on the 9mm but I do own a SA, 1911 in 9mm. Replaced the barrel with Barsto, trigger work and now it shoots very well at 25 yds with American Eagle 115 gr ammo. I dont think the 9mm in the XD would have done so well, the accuracy and the slide weight to cycling rate is something to consider. I think a 40 in the XD/5", is a better choice.
Ive own a Glock 22 before but I would certainly buy the XD over the Glock. Just me.

I have a 4 inch xd in .357 sig
I LOVE IT.. I dont care for Glocks, and was looking for something other then a 1911 for shooting. Now I find myself shooting my XD just as much if not more then my 1911..

I have a XD 40 tactical and it seems pretty reliable and accurate.

When I first got it the shots were high and to the left, I guess it seems to get better the more I shoot it so it seems to be more dead on now.

It will just about eat anything but It does have some problems with shooting wolf flat nose.

Its simple, and fits my hand alot better then a glock.

I absolutely love mine to death - I got rid of a Glock 19 for it. Shoots like a dream and it's my nightstand gun with TruGlo fiber optic/night sights and a M-6 light / laser. As a matter of fact it's my SHTF gun too - first grab!

Get one, you'll love it!

I have 2. Both in 9mm. 1-4" and 1-5". Love them both.
They both are accurate, reliable and very comfortable to shoot. My only problem is that I have a high grip and ride the slide stop which keeps the slide from locking back on the last round. I solved that problem by taking a little off the bottom of the slide stop with a file. Reblued it. Looks good.

I absoloutly love my XD-9 Tac 5 in.

Certainly the best full size 9mm I have ever had.

100% reliable
9.9 out of 10 on accuracy
9.9 out of 10 on comfort
Excellent factory mags
Simple trigger
Easy to maintain
Super dollar value

So many good things , I will get another one ,to keep for the next generation, meaning Rugman Jr.

I cant recommend you get one, because you should get two !!!

I have an XD-9 subcompact.

Upside
Nice price, mine was $120 less than a glock 26 at the same gun show.
Super ergonomics. It just locks itself into your hand and refuses to squirm around, unlike some guns. Even shooting outdoors in 90 degree weather.
Mine has been 100% reliable so far.
Very shootable. The gun just inspires confidence, despite the trigger.
Uses Sig sights, which are common and dovetailed in.
Good takedown system, it uses a TD lever.
Light rail even on the subcompact.
Nice deals on magazines from SA, for my subcompact I can get 15 rounders with a grip adapter.

Downside
Mine has too much overtravel in the trigger. This may be fixable, but only for a price of a trigger job, and IMHO the trigger should not have this much overtravel in it.
The finish on the black slide models is apparently rust prone. Mine hasn't, but I'm old school about oil.
It is kind of boxy, like having a piece of 2x4 in your belt.

Overall, one of a couple of guns that I have owned that I felt were exceptional examples of good design.

I bought a 9mm XD for my wife last month. Going to give it to her for Christmas.

Took it to the range to make sure that everything was kosher. Pulled it out of the box and put 200 rounds through it.

Love the feel. Love how it shoots point of aim. Love the 3 15-round mags.

DIDN'T love that I got 3 failures to extract in the 200 rounds. Still trying to figure out what was to blame? Limp wrist? Wrong ammo? No cleaning before going to range? 15-round factory mags not broken in?

I dunno. But I don't feel too dissapointed. I'll try different ammo and break in the mags. If it fails for my wife at the range...I'll prob send it in to Springfield for diagnosis and repair.
