As I am still new here on this Forum. I have a question? Are there any American
owned, American made Firearms left. I mean 100% produced with American Metal.
Or have we as a country dropped the ball on quality American firearms? Have we had our 6s handed to us by foreign entities? Maybe we can find the Answers here. At least resources to head in the right direction?

So if you have a gun produced in America by an American company, but it’s made with Chinese steel… what have you got? I have never noticed firearm manufacturers telling where they get their metal from.

Well, many of the elements that make up alloy steels are rather hard to find, and then only found, mined and processed in certain parts, or countries of the world. Some have just not been found on the NA continent.

Some WWII tv programs show how Stalin and Hitler invaded other countries for their natural resources. Stalin went into Finland(?) for their nickel production.

Lots of American made 1911's
It gave me a painful, face-cramping smile to see someone list hi-point ;-)
They're bulky, and still a blowback design for the most part i think, but I do give HiPoint credit for one thing if nothing else, they were designed to be made as cheaply as possibly, so they could be sold as cheaply as possible, that way people that couldn't afford anything else, could still acquire means to defend themselves. Whatever I may think of them otherwise, I do have to respect that atleast.
That, and their carbines seem to get good reviews for what they are, if you avoid the capacity arguments.
Virtually all of our steel in imported from China nowadays. Not many US steel mills are even still running.
Come on...not that lie again. Do some research, we still produce the vast majority of the steel we use. The bulk of the steel we do import is not from China, but many other countries. China is like way down the list. China is the biggest exporter in the world, but not to the USA.

True, a lot of the structural steel angle, channel and square welded tubing for fabrication comes from another Socialist country, Canada.

I believe Mossberg is the oldest family owned/operated weapons manufacturer in the US.

Knight's Armament in Titusville, FL.
C. Reed Knight, here with Gene Stoner had a huge impact on American firearms manufacturing. Still does to this day.

Been looking real hard at "Uncle Les". Even though some here have called him cantankerous. My wife and myself spent some quality time with Uncle Les. Enough to know we are both gearheads, I'm also the son-of-a-gearhead. We both had Air Products as a previous employer. And we really connected because of our parallels. But finding out alot of steel comes from China is a real bummer for sure
Baer makes good 1911s, my SIL works for some company (I really don't understand his job though) who sells steel to China, so maybe Baer is buying American steel from China, who knows, it is a complicated World lately.
I do wish S&W would ditch the Hilary Hole. There's no more need for it.
Have you looked into deleting the hillary hole with a easy to do your self kit . Might as well do a trigger group upgrade too while the inside !! maybe a Apex j frame kit .

Stealth Arms is in Ohio and makes everything except pins and springs in house.

I just ordered a custom 1911 from them last week. Amazing what you can get from them for the price.

Probably going to order a Platypus (their double stack 1911 that takes Glock mags), too, as soon as they have the option for an RMR footprint. Supposed to be July.

Anyone mention Palmetto State Armory yet? They're South Carolina based and owned by the SC company JJE Capitol who's tagline is "Reviving the American Dream".

"They also manage a number of different brands including, DC Machine, Ferrous Engineering, Lead Star Arms, PSA Defense, Palmetto Outdoors, Special Tool Solutions, and Spartan Forge. In September 2020 JJE Capital also acquired DPMS, H&R, Stormlake, AAC and Parker brands from the Freedom Group bankruptcy auction." Wikipedia

We only use U.S. Sourced material in any parts we make in house at Cabot. Frames, slides, safeties, hammers, sears, slide stops, etc are all machined in this building. Getting US material has been pretty difficult the last couple of years and we have to over-order to make sure delays don't run us out.

Not many companies actually make their own stuff under their own roof. Some are merely "assembly shops". In other companies, they make some of the stuff and order other things from overseas. There's definitely a mix of formulas. The worst are the ones who project an image of making all of their own parts while getting virtually everything from the lowest foreign bidder.

I believe EXTAR guns are all American if I remember right.

You would be surprised at how much steel comes from western Europe and fortunately, there is still some made in the USA.
High quality, especially tool steels, are made all over the world with Schmolz + Bickenbach (Swiss Steel) being one if not the largest and tracing its origins back to 1919. Nearly 50% of the company is owned by a Martin Haefner, a Swiss Billionaire.
Interesting statistic: By 1940 more than half of the world's steel was being produced in the USA. Unfortunately, by the end of the 20th century we were producing less than 6% of the world's steel.
