Commander frames are "full size", in the sense that they take full-length 1911 magazines. The dust covers are shorter on a Commander, to accommodate the shortened slide; a Government Model slide will fit on the frame, but the short dust cover will leave a small gap between it and the slide's recoil spring tunnel. It might work, but will look weird. There are some other internal differences that could prevent a GM top end from dropping in, and functioning, on a Commander frame, so if what you want is a Government Model, you should swap your Commander for one.

where are you?
I have a full size 91 with some work done. I'd hate to get rid of it as it's a tackdriver, but.........................
