American Handgunner (John Petty IIRC) did a series a couple years back concerning the accuracy of the actual barrel. He tested several barrels ranging from $200+ custom, to a GI barrel. Overall the custom barrels alone weren't much more accurate than the GI.
The Nat'l Match barrels and bushings are a bit "beefier" in the areas that are fitted for the barrel: Barrel hood, locking lugs, muzzle. That allows it to fit and lock up tighter. The bushing is also fit tighter. This is a great accuracy enhancer. I forget the exact percentage Kuhnhausen gives a fitted barrel and bushing. But it definetly is an accuracy fix.
