BBR 3.10 Short & Fat.

While surfing the Webernets, I came across an item in stock that I previously thought that was made from Unabtainium.

I of course immediately checked the funds in my “have to have” secret cash stash, & had enough to order said item.

Well two weeks later (there was a discrepancy in the sellers records and the new address of my go to FFL when they sent their information for my order, my FFL moved 3 doors down in the shopping strip to a bigger section.) I picked my BBR 3.10 Friday.

I immediately noticed that there was some differences. Here is a link to the RIA site with the spec sheet for the model in question (51577).

https://armscor.com/files/51577---Rock-Ultra-CS-3.10_2019.jpg

I noticed that there was only one magazine included in the case. All the online reviews (written & Video) claimed that they had gotten two magazines in the case.

Also I noticed that there was no fiber optic front sight (as stated in the RIA spec sheet), just a serrated ramped front sight in black.

And finally the short 3.10” barrel and slide is ported ! Three ports on the barrel itself, and three ports on the slide to allow the ports on the barrel to vent out.

I am wondering how much the porting is going to affect muzzle velocity as the 3” barrel is going to lose some velocity as it is.

I wrote an email to RIA, and got a response today. Basically it said that these changes, front sight and porting, were made due to a factory recall to improve reliability.

I will get to the range as soon as I can to tell you all how it runs with hard ball and my preferred carry Ammo.

Well, this has been a long write up, so here are the pictures you are screaming at me to shut up and get to......

Please keep us posted. All the online reviews for the past year seemed good- I don't remember seeing any videos showing questionable reliability. I began to think they abandoned the 3.10 since we hadn't seen them outside of the review circuit, and that seemed like a while ago that they started showing up.
im more interested in where you ordered it.
I cant find one anywhere I want to order it from and have posted many times about it.

PS: the porting would melt the optical sight. So I can see that change.
Slide velocity was a problem with the Warthog. Para made a ton of recoil spring changes and that helped nothing made things worse.
As JaysGone said, the porting would melt the fiber-optic insert.
A brass bead insert in the front sight would look nice and give you some decent low-light sighting ability.

The porting should help to keep the barrel locked long enough to prevent the slide opening before the chamber pressure has dropped to safe levels. If you want to slow the slide down further, look for a flat-bottom firing pin stop instead of messing with the springs.

And as for the two magazines that reviewers received, I would chalk that up to the reviewer requesting a second magazine, or Armscor just sending two mags out to reviewers.
Generally RIAs just come with the one magazine as a cost-cutting function.

PM sent. :)
The two Para P13, 12 round magazines that I ordered from a big online parts seller (has 4 letters in their name and ends with NN.) arrived today.
They do not fit in the BBR 3.10. The magazines will not lock into the frame with the slide closed, either full or empty. With the slide locked open, the the magazines will lock in, but the feed lips stick up too far and the slide will hit & jamb open on them when the slide lock is depressed, and the magazine pushes up on the slide lock making it difficult to depress.
So, that was $20 plus shipping wasted. I will tinker with them later on to see if I can get them to work correctly.

Sorry no pictures of this.
BBR 3.10 Short & Fat.

I picked up two of the factory 10 round magazines and couple of styles of grip extensions to get a full grip on this pistol.
I had to modify both of them to fit & work properly but they both feel great.
The top one on the picture is a Pearce Para P-10 grip extension. (PG-P10E)
And the bottom one is a Pearce grip extension for an XD-45. (PG-XD45)

Another update,

I played around with the P-13 magazines and got one to work properly, to seat, hand cycle rounds through the BBR 3.10 and lock back on an empty magazine.

First I had to cut the mag catch notch a little higher.

One on the right in the pictures

Then trim the grip collar to fit the profile of the BBR 3.10 frame bottom.

Now it fit great with a full 13 rounds in the magazine on a closed slide.

Now to get the other one altered to work too.

Steam Boat, I'm trying to figure out what collar you modified on the P-13 magazine
The one that is included When you buy the P13 magazine with the collar adaptor for the P10/Warthog from CDNN , it takes up the space between the bottom of the Wart Hog/P10 frame and the top of the magazine base plate,
I looked at the ad. Bottom left shows 45 ACP ballistics. 230 grain 849 fps. MAYBE out of a 5".

I chronographed some Remington Ball from my 3.3" shield compact, 750 fps. 230 grain Hollow points av 738 fps. I got similar results out of my Officers LW ACP (3.5")

I got some 230 XTP up to 860 fps out of the 3.3" with out going over book limits. Its a handful to shoot out of either one.

Enjoy your new toy.

I have been to three different Rural Kings and all three had the 3.10 in the display case.

Oh ok. I bought 2 of the P13 mags from CDNN but not with the collar adapter. Hopefully I can buy those separate. My boyfriend just got this handgun and I've done all the research to extend the grip and your method is the only thing I could fine. So, thank you!

Your welcome.
So, how did it feed and work with those mags after your mods. I have a 3.10 also and want a 2nd back-up mag
Have you tried the new modified magazines yet? How is the function and reliability of them?
this and the above post were new member issues
The factory (Advanced Tactical) 10 round function very well after modifying and installing the extended Grip base plates.

The P13 magazines from CDNN after modifying to work act as if (and feel) like the springs are weak and intermittently FTF, like the springs are not lifting the next round fast enough for the returning slide to catch & load.
I am going to order some Wolff extra power P13 springs to see if they correct the problems.

Did you just drill a hole for the metal base and dimple and cutoff the tab, or modify the frame for space to keep the tab

I was considering doing that just based on reading about some of the Para double stacks anyway. Looking forward to hearing about it :)
The Warthog extension I first measured length & cut off the tab to be flush with the rear of the factory RIA magazine and measured again to drill the hole location for the magazine bottom plate dimple.
That worked OK, but felt loose. So I ground off the ribs inside the Warthog extension and took a punch and from the back side of the magazine bottom plate pushed the dimple a little taller to engage the drilled hole a little better.
The XD extension needed measured & trimmed flush to the rear of the RIA magazine, and needed trimmed in height, be careful, take a little at a time just until the RIA magazine fits and seats.
