BBR 3.10 Short & Fat.

While surfing the Webernets, I came across an item in stock that I previously thought that was made from Unabtainium.

I of course immediately checked the funds in my “have to have” secret cash stash, & had enough to order said item.

Well two weeks later (there was a discrepancy in the sellers records and the new address of my go to FFL when they sent their information for my order, my FFL moved 3 doors down in the shopping strip to a bigger section.) I picked my BBR 3.10 Friday.

I immediately noticed that there was some differences. Here is a link to the RIA site with the spec sheet for the model in question (51577).

https://armscor.com/files/51577---Rock-Ultra-CS-3.10_2019.jpg

I noticed that there was only one magazine included in the case. All the online reviews (written & Video) claimed that they had gotten two magazines in the case.

Also I noticed that there was no fiber optic front sight (as stated in the RIA spec sheet), just a serrated ramped front sight in black.

And finally the short 3.10” barrel and slide is ported ! Three ports on the barrel itself, and three ports on the slide to allow the ports on the barrel to vent out.

I am wondering how much the porting is going to affect muzzle velocity as the 3” barrel is going to lose some velocity as it is.

I wrote an email to RIA, and got a response today. Basically it said that these changes, front sight and porting, were made due to a factory recall to improve reliability.

I will get to the range as soon as I can to tell you all how it runs with hard ball and my preferred carry Ammo.

Well, this has been a long write up, so here are the pictures you are screaming at me to shut up and get to......

Hello all, I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I'm going to anyway. Any thoughts on night sights for the BBR 3.10? Would the front sight survive very long, because of the ported barrel? Thanks in advance...Clint
With the porting, it would at least constantly getting blacked by carbon fouling.
You should contact the sight manufacturer and ask them if will withstand the heat.

Hopefully I will have an answer for you soon. My BBR is presently getting the slide cut for a 507k, but I also have a trit/white outline front I ordered from Advanced Tactical. For the curious, yes, I'm sac'g the BBR rear sight and hopeful the built-in on the 507k is close enough for back up service. FWIW, I'm planning to Eezox the trit front to keep it easy to wipe clean

To the mag discussion, I also ordered and modified a pair of P13 mags. One is 100%, but the second ftf's 'cause it lets rounds nose dive into the feed ramp. And, I'll see about getting some extra power springs to get it running right.

Yep,
Get the Wolff extra power springs for the P-13 mags, it made my P-13 mags reliable.

I look forward to your follow up--i can't see black blades anymore. I've changed sights on about everything i own so far. This is my 2nd bbr 310 thinking both times i was buying the model before they started porting and removed the fiber optic front sight. very interested to know what dovetail is needed and what model sight would not cover the port.

I have not installed the trit front yet. First fit of the 507k was unsatisfactory.

Following up on 507k: I had it back for a week. But it is back with the smith (Briley in Houston) for corrections.

When I picked it up, I tried to sight just to get a feel, but I couldn't find the reticle. Immediately thought Holosun had released a defective unit. When I got home, where I could investigate without alarming folks, I discovered they had not installed the battery.

So, I installed the battery and found the reticle. Took it to the range with the goal of zeroing at 10yds to start. My laser bore sighter is too long for the BBR barrel so I started in on an oversized target. First time I punched paper, POI was a couple feet low. Started working POI up but found mechanical limit of 507k while POI was still more than 2 inches low.

Well, I got real curious about bore alignment so I ordered a 9mm laser cartridge. Cartridge confirmed windage was awesome. It also showed me that, at 10 yards, bore is aligned with the bottom edge of the 32moa circle. This won't fly at the upper mechanical limit of the sight.

And ... back it went. I explained my issues carefully for one of Briley's Smiths when I returned it for the fix. I'm a little concerned that he didn't even want to see what the laser cartridge shows clearly (I know he was interrupted from whatever he was working on to talk with myself and a guy with questions about his STI's trigger. So, I explained that I need them to return the sight to the middle of its 87 clicks of elevation (I counted) then correct the slide cut so it shows POI at POA in the center of the elevation range.

I hope to update on the trit sight shortly. In the mean time, I will say I'm expecting it to be a regular RIA sight cut. I ordered a trit front for an officer size rock. Every Rock front I've swapped is the same dovetail - am hoping that holds.

Let me tell you I changed mine to night sights but the problem is the ported barrel. The ports are too close to the front sight so after 50 rounds can’t see the sights and have to clean it sight each time. The ported gases take off the front paint of yoi try to paint the front and melts fiber optic front sights. With my night sights I pushed on there it just doesn’t work very long in low light consitions

Has anyone had their recoil guide rod disappear? I took mine out to shoot for the first time and it was awesome. Took it apart for the second time ever to clean it, and the guide rod that was in my recoil spring was gone. The spring was still inside the gun but the rod was gone. I looked everywhere and I swear I didn't lose it. The two springs where still there as well as the plate the guide rod was attached to and the bushings keeping it all inside... Just ordered a new one off their website. FML

Ok, I got the new recoil pin, but when I try to screw it into that little plate, the threading doesn't go all the way in. I think the last pin that I lost had its threading break off inside. I just emailed ArmsCore to see if they can send me that part. They don't sell it on their website advancedtactical.com. Hopefully, they can get it to me, so have only fired 100 rounds through this gun, and it's currently inoperable.
Find the appropriate tap & run it through to clean up the threads, you could have buggered some of them up.
And take a close look at the threads on the new guide rod to make sure they are clean, (no burrs or bent).
Just because it is new doesn’t mean it is good.

Thank you for all the advice guys! So I contacted Armscore and they sent me a new pin and the plate it threads into! I was able to put the gun back together with no problem and cycled some Snap-Caps that fed through perfectly. I will keep an eye on this pistol next time I shoot it. Fire a few rounds and then check and make sure the recoil pin is still there.

But for now, I am happy that the manufacturer was able to get me the parts I needed in a few weeks. I am curious if I got a bad part or if this is a design flaw in the gun. I am assuming the former because I have not found any other posts by anyone with this issue anywhere.
Before you go out & fire the pistol with the new guide rod assembly, disassem the new piece, Thuroghly degrease them with brake cleaner or the like, let them dry & wipe with a clean rag. Then use a dab of blue lock tite on them following the instructions & assemble them and lube a normal When reassembling the pistol.
Then you will not have to worry about them coming apart again.
Uet you will be able to disassemble them when you feel like it With the application of some heat.

BBR 3.10 Short & Fat.

I picked up two of the factory 10 round magazines and couple of styles of grip extensions to get a full grip on this pistol.
I had to modify both of them to fit & work properly but they both feel great.
The top one on the picture is a Pearce Para P-10 grip extension. (PG-P10E)
And the bottom one is a Pearce grip extension for an XD-45. (PG-XD45)
A big thank you to Steam Boat for the due diligence on these mods. I didn't see the need for the extra rounds, and I preferred the easier mod, so I went with the Pearce grip extension for an XD-45. (PG-XD45) mod and I have to say I love it. I went from thinking about selling to whoa I love this thing.

I have a single stack RIO 4.5” 1911, which I love. I picked this pup up today...unaware that it's apparently difficult to get magazines...

I'd LOVE one with the extension for my pinky, but the ones I'm seeing for the XDS seem to be for single stack mags?

Also....for the love, does anyone know where to get a couple 3 or 4 extra magazines for this thing?

I GOT MINE STRAIGHT FROM RI---THEY WERE AVAILABLE ON GUNBROKER ALSO
Read the early posts in this thread, I included the Pearce manufacturer numbers for the “pinky rest” for the double stack XD in .45 ACP and the Para “Warthog”/P-10 In .45 ACP.
Realize that both require modifications to work on the BBR 3.10/Warrior magazine & pistol frame.
As for spare magazines, get on notification lists at several suppliers that list them as OOS. Or check the suppler’s websites often to catch them in stock.
RIA’s parts site shows them in stock right now.
You can also use the Para P-13 magazines that come with the sleeve for use with the Para Warthog/P-10, but modification is needed to make them function. (Also read previous posts).
