So I have a good number of reference guides on 1911 maintenence and customizing options, but I am looking for a book that shows how to do all the measurements, fitting, and final testing. Basically a 1911 build class in a book. I can't afford to spend the thousands i want to for an actual class but still want to learn the small processes and how to so I can better understand all of this when I actually can take a class. Any recommendations?

The two volumes by Jerry Kuhnhausen on Smithing the 1911 are a good place to start. They're $30 each and available from Brownells, Midway, etc. but not the normal bookstores. A lot more info than most owners will ever use, but good reference stuff. V 1, is text and pictures, while V II is more diagrams and drawings.

They are both worth their weight in gold, and have been considered the standard forever.

Get both of them, they both have information that will switch the lightbulb over your head on.
