Vermont is a paradox, well maybe not, but by some standards it is. It is a very liberal state but in terms more in line with the true meaning of liberty. Leahy was their Senator when I lived there, for three years back in the late 1980's. I thought it was a strange, yet great state then. The people of Vermont are very independent and don't take to outside influence very well. Yet still it is nothing more than a big park for the people of New York City. The City Burlington seems to be breaking ranks. I wonder if it's due to outside influences.

That is how it happens. In Florida, we have the Tampa area and Miami area with this influences. In Texas there is Austin and Houston.

I lived in southern NH for awhile, it was largely already taken over by people from MA. Just a matter of time for those statesbefore they are overrun, hate to say, apparently liberals breed like rabbits and love to move to conservative areas...

The phenomenon I have observed is libs screw up an area trying to "improve" it into a utopia, and then move off somewhere else and start over with the same schtick.

If I remember correctly Burlington hired a cop from LA to be their chief of police and he FREAKED when he found out about their carry laws and convinced the city to "get with the times."

My family has a cabin in the woods near Montpelier, I have been going there since high school. Beautiful state. I agree with the notion that it is only a matter of time before gun regulation and liberal/socialist doctrine make a grab for freedom up there. VT has a lot of transplanted wealth, people with $$$$ from NYC by property and 2nd homes there.

Maybe VT needs to dramatically increase property taxes on NYC anti-gun libs with 2nd or 3rd homes in VT.

Terry McAuliff and his band of thieves.

Are certainly going to be trying to pull off what they can here in the commonwealth. It is going to be a long four years.

But FL has awesome preemption against localities. It actually states that local govt officials be thrown in jail of they try to enact gun control.

Every time I forget something or someone just HAS to remind me...I never thought I'd care about politics, much less get furious over who won what office. But everything about the Democrat regime has been rubbing me the wrong way of late.

I hope Vermont's upper level courts give that town a proper smack-down. "Accept where otherwise applicable by law" probably means in federal buildings, schools, and other government property, like in other states where pre-emption exists.

Growing up on the border I believe the correct term for such folks is "Massholes" ......:grumble:

Sounds like they're trying to take a page out of Seattle's playbook. WA state also pre-empts local governments from enacting stricter gun laws, but that didn't stop former mayor Greg Nichols from pushing through a ban against CCW on Seattle property anyway, knowing full well the state Supreme Court would rule it unconstitutional. A lot of taxpayer money went towards dealing with that mess, overruling a law that should never have made it onto the books to start with. But that's the liberal mindset, eff the law we will do what we want. Of course you have no right to do what you want if you disagree with them.

CA has the same law and the same problem with cities like San Francisco, LA, Oakland and a few others. NRA has and continues to sue and win, SF recently shelled our big casino over a local handgun ban. They're at it again with a magazine ban.

The local politicians and liberal residents seem to have no objection to losing and shelling out court costs and NRA attorney fees. Rather than taking a normal appproach of "taxpayer money wasted" perhaps, considering the locale, we could persuade SF to stop doing this sort of thing by suggesting "how many free needles to drug users, how many free condoms to teenagers and hookers would you be able to hand out rather than losing to NRA" - and maybe the thought of doing that bit of "social work" would make the mayor and City Council think twice.

Here in Colorado we refer to this type of thing as "californication". People who move in from wildly liberal states tend to try and duplicate what they ran away from here.

Don't New Jersey Vermont!
Can I get an amen! Love visiting Vermont. Love the lack of billboards up that way. 'Tis a much calmer place than NJ. Hoping it stays that way.
