Hi,

What are the laws for carrying or bringing on-site guns on a campsite? Just curious. A buddy wants to go camping at a place he said we could go and shoot, but some places like Joshua Tree have a sign with a picture of a rifle and a universal slash for 'no' over it. I'm not sure if that means no guns on the premises, or just no shooting.

Please advise. Thanks.

If you are going to be camping in a state or federal park or monument in CA, there usually are restictions on the possession of firearms. The best bet is to contact the park itself and ask what their rules/regulations are. BLM land, to the best of my knowledge, has no restrictions on carrying; however, state laws may apply. Certain areas may be off-limits to shooting due to nearby housing, schools, etc.

Camping? In Kalifonia (sic)? I'd bring the gun and be very discreet about it. Forget about shooting/plinking. Why advertise to God-knows-who that you are armed? If you need it, you have it. If you don't, you don't.
