My eyes are heading south as I get older and I need to change or adjust sights... like to try moving to about a .145" notch from a .125 notch. My particular sights aren't offered in larger sized notches.

Can I have it opened up or is it more cost effective to just replace the sights?

For reference, I have the STI model TAS sights.

As a follow up to those who have larger rear sights- what size do you like?

Thanks!

I have Harrison, 10-8, and Heinie fixed sights on my pistols and all have a .140 rear notch that I use with a .125 wide F/O front sight and that works well for me (63 year old eyes). I have a couple of pistols with adjustable rears with a .115 notch and a .100 front F/O works well too. A gunsmith should be able to widen the notch on your existing sight if you don't want it replaced.

If ya have steady hands , just grab a set of needle files at the local hardware store or next gun show and open them up as wide as ya need.

Thanks, I will check with a local smith to see if he can do it and what the cost might be.
