There are no stupid questions, especially when it comes to firearms. Good luck with your new blaster.
I can say with some authority that yes, there ARE stupid questions. Usually they are asked by someone standing right next to a warning sign in bold that actually answers their question.

This is the mag type in question that fits myAR10 hoping to fit an M1A I am eyeballing. Can you give it a check for me?

Thank you!

No, that wouldn't work in an M14/M1A. I've seen M14 mags modified for use in AR10s, but not vice/versa.

For a mag to work in a standard M14/M1A, it needs a hole just under the front lip for the rear end of the recoil spring guide to catch in, and a "stud" on the back for the mag catch to latch underneath to hold the thing in place.

M14 mags kinda have to be "rocked" into place front-to-back like AK mags. They aren't as easy to jam straight in as AR style mags.

From what I've experienced and read, Checkmate makes good M14/M1A mags, without you having to hunt down Vietnam-era M14 mags like we used to from 1994-2004. And I believe they are still OEM for Springfield Armory:

Edited again to add: AR10 mags also have completely different followers, which wouldn't ever engage the bolt stop on an M14 or M1A on the last round.

I remember when Ram-Line made a clear plastic mag that was made to fit both ARs as well as Ruger Mini-14s (which rock n' lock much like an M-14). The idea was sound, but the plastic they used was thin and brittle and those mags didn't last very long, assuming they even worked in the first place.

Sounds good! If you make the modification, please take pictures. It’s only plastic so should be pretty easy….
OK, I dug out my Magpul AR mag and my SOCOM 16 (which should be the same as the regular M1a) and found the plastic mag would not fit into the mag well - I'm not sure what it would take to widen it, but since most of my AR-10 mags are metal and fit both guns I don't have any real need to go to great effort (I don't use the AR-10 much anyway, but I do use my Mossberg Patrol Rifle, which does take both mags as well. IIRC the Mossberg works with standard M-14 mags too. I sure wish the Ruger Gunsite Scout took them as well 😕

Yep, I have a few of those - I likely would not depend on them for hard use but, as you say, the basic idea was a good one. I do not understand why Ruger felt the need to avoid the use of M-16 mags...if it they had to be slightly modified to work with the simple mag catch ? I note they have a version of the American Ranch that does take M-16 mags (but Bill Ruger was dead by the time it came out - which may have something to do with it).

A note on over insertion. No, the other kind ...
I recall a 3D Print file (.stl ) for a sleeve that matched the cross section of the grip that could be slipped over the extended magazine. I don't have it handy (sorry) but it really can't be that hard to reproduce.

Never underestimate the stupidity of your fellow man/woman!!!

Reminds me of a recent fire in a Philly apartment. It had a recent inspection by the fire and housing depts. Naturally, the residents removed or disabled the smoke detectors. The residents are now suing the owners because they did not install tamper-proof smoke detectors that they supposedly could not disable! 😵
