Actually, I have been considering a PX4 SC...I like the da/sa action, with a decocker, and I even like the quirky looks of the gun. One thing I don't like about Beretta is their limited warranty (one year, and + 2 if you register) and their poor customer service...BUT, one gun shop that I deal with offers a life time warranty on anything they sell, and they have a gun smith on site. They say they will fix it or interact with the company on my behalf, so that isn't a real big concern. I like the SC model better than the full size or compact PX4s...the rotating barrel sounds nice in concept, and may reduce recoil, but the additional complexity seems like a potential weak point to me. The SC doesn't use the rotating barrel.

My favorite 9mm pistol is my SIG P229 e2...15 rounds and the reduced size grip feels so good in my smaller size hands. For the reasons I stated when I started this thread, though, I don't like to carry it in the car.

The rifle vault in your pic looks very much secure. But I do think that "WobbleZone's" Marlin lever rifle would be a better alternative and suffice for the intended purpose, while not being subjected to as much scrutiny in a court of law as the AR.:) Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge AR fan (got a couple), but I'd rather not take the risk of defending myself (in a court of law) with it outside of my home, especially suppressed; again, risk vs. reward.
the pic i posted was from another thread, another member uses it. He even stated that in his pic is his house gun and his EDC is not suppressed. I am thinking a shotgun or a lower capacity rifle would do the trick. I am really thinking about putting a mosen nagant in the car, accurate 7.62 can be used in many places for hunting and cheap at 89$

I would never leave a firearm in a vehicle.
So, what would you do if you are out running errands and carrying a gun, and you stop to visit someone at a hospital? Or attend a program at your child's school? Or stop at a bar to have a drink? Or go into a government building to register your vehicle?

Guns a booze don't mix. That's a big noooo....... As far as multiple stops at any of the places you mentioned, you you would either have to secure the gun in the vehicle by putting it in a mounted lock box or leave it at home.

In the US a home is broken into every 10.8 seconds and a car is broken into every 26.4 seconds. So keeping a gun in either place is not "safe." If you keep a gun in your car or your house it is your responsibility to secure it as best you can.

I have a "truck gun" and it is looked up at all times in my SUV. The purpose of my "truck gun" is to have a firearm near me when I am away from my house and the SHTF. I can't carry at work, church, in restaurants that sell alcohol, at the movie theater, or at a doctor's office. I don't carry when I am at home, at my parents or my in-laws because there are already guns there. So for me most of my time "carrying" would be sitting in a car. So I choose not to carry on me most of the time because I am comfortable with having a gun in my car, at my house or at my families houses.

And I know having my gun locked up is not as easily accessible as having it on my hip but I can't have it on me (away from the house) most of the time anyway.

That was my question...when a person says they will never leave a gun in a car, then they must opt not to carry on days that they make any stops where guns are prohibited. I would rather carry and leave my gun in the car in these situations. I agree with the need to secure it better than just leaving it in the console.

Gotcha. I'd like to find a lock box I can bolt under the driver seat with a spring loaded drawer like on a cash register. There are probably several options out there.

I chose an S&W Sigma .40.

After some polishing to the internals and removal of a couple of unneeded springs in the fire-control group I've tweaked it down to a 4.5 lb trigger pull.

Basically, I carry the 1911 on me, but the Sigma is left in the car or truck (concealed) and the car or truck is locked if I'm ever outside of it. I never leave a firearm in a vehicle overnight but I really wouldn't be THAT pissed if someone broke into the car and got my gun. I mean, yeah, I'd be hating life but the gun is on my firearms policy on my insurance so I'd be able to get it back.

A lot of the time the 'vette also has the Mossy 500 8-shot in there too, because you just never know...

I highly doubt I'll ever run into a situation where I need 25 rounds of .45s, 56 rounds of .40 S&W and 14 rounds of 12 gauge, BUT, I've got it...:D

In CA your not allowed to have a loadeed gun in your vechicle. So that being said whenever i go to the range I have to loaded amgs next to the gun that is in a locked case cause your guns have to be locked up. Back when I had my truck I had a plan that once I got out of CA the back seat rest would fold down and 2 590s would be there a .30-06 bolt gun and An AR with my 37 mounted underneath it. Plus 4 Longslide Springfiel or RIA .45 pistols. And a ton of ammo. But that was all a lwayout idea I had that would be a cut out of the back seat back rest. Plus carrying my RIA CS COMPACT in .45 when i get back to a State that lets you carry.

Silverado - Ithaca M37 12 ga. 8-shot and Colt Enhanced Commander

Camaro - Ithaca M37 12 ga. 8-shot and Colt Double Eagle Officer Model

Corvette - Mossberg 500 Multi-Purpose 12 ga. 5-shot and Colt Enhanced Officer Model

I carry a 1911 .45 on me unless I'm working, then it is in the truck along with an AR with peep sights. Very basic. Can do what I did in the Corps, hit the 8" bullseye at 300 yds 90% of the time. Plenty of ammo. It's all I need.

Apparently there's a large misconception of what "truck gun" typically refers to.

It's not a "go to war" or even "defend thyself" kit. The term (where I've lived... Arizona, Pennsylvania, Georgia) simply refers to a work gun. Something to get rid of critters, nothing more. Mostly ranch hands and people with outdoors jobs keep a "truck gun". It's a RIFLE that's not collector quality, generally inexpensive, and something you can beat around and not worry about. My "truck guns" are a 30-30 and .357 Winchester.

They're for getting rid of coyotes or other varmints at job-sites when I worked as a ranch hand and as a log-home builder. Nothing more.

What makes a truck gun? Simply asking yourself questions. Can I throw this behind the seat, beat around in the field all day, and not keep thinking "Was the *clunk* I just heard my gun?". Can I throw this in the rifle rack and not worry about the rack scratching it? etc etc ad nauseum.

The hard-mounted handguns and little black rifles are great, but not what a "truck gun" typically implies. Truck guns are tools to be used for working. Those are for making you feel like John Rambo while cruising town.

Born and raised in Texas.

I know what a truck gun is.

It's for dealing with the likes of rattlesnakes, coyotes, and predators.

Unfortunately, the definition and population of predators has been expanded to include their urban territory.:(

As for a Pistol I carry it in at night and out with me during the day.(with holster) In SC it has to be on you or in a glove box type compartment.
Main truck gun is a Marlin 783 22 mag. made in 1976 with a Weaver Scope same year. Works wonders on critters.

Now that's funny :biglaugh:

My truck gun is a very reliable, ugly tool for what ever reason I might need it.

I grew up in a small West Texas town, and everybody had a pickup with a couple of rifles in the rear window rack...even us kids, or even at school. No one thought anything about it...and there was plenty of open land outside of town to go shoot rabbits or cans. Back then, jack rabbits were a plague and you were doing the ranchers a favor and having fun at the same time. I really don't recall anyone carrying handguns then...I'm sure the adults did, I just don't recall it.

I still live in Texas, in a small rural community SE of Dallas...but I can't recall the last time I've seen a pickup with a rifle rack, or visible rifles. Times have changed, and so have some of our terms and meaning. Unfortunately, not for the better.
