I was at a local shop this afternoon, and came across a Safari Arms Enforcer that had had a custom case coloring job. All external parts, including frame and slide have been done.
Any idea what that would run, or what value it would add? certainly looked different from run of the mill 1911's. How durable is case coloring?

The original purpose of case coloring is to actually put a surface hardness on the part to make it last longer. It is my understanding that some of the current "colors" are just that and not actual case hardened pieces.

It's "advantage" is purely cosmetic; you either like it or you don't. It has no practical value and (IMHO) will not look as good when the colors wear as a blued gun does with worn blue. Again, personal preference.
