I know you do not have to lube pistol brass for reloading with carbide dies however is there any reason why I could not shoot a quick shot of Hornady one shot to ez the jerk I get when running my mixed .45 acp range brass through my Hornady AP LNL?

I use lube with carbide dies. It makes the process smoother. I'm loading on a Dillon 550 and have been lubing pistol brass for 30+ years. A friend came over to load some 9mm ammo a a few weeks ago. Because he's been loading on a single stage press forever and using carbide dies he has not been lubing the brass. I let him start without lube for about 20 rounds and then put a couple of spritzes of lube on the brass. He is totally convinced that he has emerged from the dark ages. He also now needs a Dillon.

One thing that gets overlooked when using spray case lube is letting the VOC's evaporate before resizing.

Yes Martha it's in the instructions too!

For me . . . lubing pistol brass before loading on the progressive makes the job so much easier it's worth either the cost of One-Shot or the minimal cost of home brew lanolin/alchohl brew.

IMO it would NOT be worth it if I had to remove the lube at some point after sizing. The lubes above do not need to be removed.

Just one or two every now and then during the process. It adds a little smoothness. My brass comes out of the tumbler slick enough with the polish that I have never felt the need to lube an entire sessions worth. Kinda defeats the purpose of a progressive. I’ll just spray a handful and set them aside to dry while I start loading. I’ll add on e to the mix occasionally.

Before experimenting with any "oils" be sure to have a "stuck case" removal tool handy!

Lanolin is the lube of choice for resizing!

Yes Martha, "been there done that"!

My back, neck and rt shoulder are a mess. Thought I wanted to be a motorcycle racer in the late 70's. That didn't go so well so I took up shooting. Should have jumped on the shooting sports first! Anyway, it finally dawned on my idiot self that a little case lube reduced the effort to operate the press enough that long sessions without pain were possible again. Love the Hornady one shot spray.
I have found that adding some car polish/wax to some cobb for the final tumble helps as well plus I don't think the cases tarnish as quick either.
Slightly off topic, if you can afford it a D1050 has been a blessing as far as shoulder pain while loading, its by far the easiest press to operate I've ever tried. I'm even considering automating it not for speed but to rest the sore spots so I can enjoy range time a little more.

Most of the folks I know that try lubing pistol case continue to do so. It’s the ones that never tried it or felt the difference it makes, that don’t lube.
I would fall into this category, but I would like to try lubing cases.
In my limited reloading experience, I have noticed it is much easier to size pistol cases using Redding titanium carbide compared to tungsten carbide.

Anyone know if there is any difference (function/performance wise) between Hornady one shot vs making your own with pure lanolin oil and 99% isopropyl alcohol?

The only difference in performance is the ability to increase the amount of lanolin as needed. Use anhydrous lanolin available on line and alcohol that is no more than 1% water available at hardware stores.

All the best,
Thanks for the reply. Looks like I'll need to order some stuff to make my own case lube. Should be much more economical in the long run.
