At the range Saturday I shot my RIA 38 Super. While picking up the casings I found three that had this damage at the mouth. I had no failures of any type. I did have two casings that flew straight back into my head and it seemed like some were bouncing off the concrete ceiling.

The casings are probably nickle. Remington UMC brand.

Any ideas what would cause this type of damage?

This is my first attempt at attaching a photo. Hope it works.

Every round ejects but not into the same area. Some seem to pop straight up and some go straight back. Not very many though. Most land at the 4 o'clock position about 6-8 feet away.

Seems like the gets rammed by the hood (?) of the barrel which in turn crushes the case. Funny though I didn't have any jams of any type. I found only three out of say 75 rounds but 1 is more than I would want to see.

Its odd either way.
