This has probably been discussed here but I could not find in a search.

When chambering the first round, my 5" 9mm RO strips the second round from the 9-rd magazine. Usually, I drop the mag and reload the second round. If I do not do this and just leave it, somehow it cycles fine. Not sure exactly where that second round is hanging out between the third round at top of mag and slide.

Anyone know the fix for this? Does not seem to happen if I use a Dan Wesson magazine, not always anyway. I am using 147gr Federal ammo but happens with 115 and 124 also.

My other 1911s do not do this.

Thanks in advance.

There is no fix because it's not an issue

As you yourself said when the gun is actually fired it works fine. What's happening is as the slide goes forward and strips the top round and chambers it the second round is being dragged forward by the center slide rail. When the gun is fired the rearward movement of the slide pushes the round back into place. In other words it's only a problem when you remove the mag to top off, and even then it's only a minor annoyance

It's common on single column Smith autos.
