I am going to replace the thumb safety and grip safety. Can this be done without taking off the mainspring housing? I know the thumb safety will come out but not sure about the grip safety.
Usually there wil be interfearence with the Housing. this is what keeps it from going to far in the safe position. You can push the pin out, and just slide it down far enough to clear the grip safety. Removing the MSH is no big deal, just make sure you do it with the hammer down. Remove slide, push out MSH pin with hammer down, slide MSH down about 1/2 inch, cock hammer, wiggle thumb safety up and out, Reassemble in reverse order. Make sure to do the standard safety checks when you are done.
