Hilton Yam is an LEO (all due respect granted) and part time 'smith whose signature grade 1911s, when compared to the guys who have been at this for awhile, certainly wouldn't be on my top five list. Just because its there doesn't mean it serves a purpose.Wayward said:Hilton Yam believes it helps to secure one's grip and includes it on his signature grade pistols.

I guess this assumes that under the stress of the moment that you have a good grip to begin with. What good does it do if it locks in a bad grip?gigmike said:I believe I'm correct in saying it's there to help the shooter "lock" their grip in. It helps you to keep a correct grip, at least in theory.
