I recently purchased a Colt Commander XSE. I wanted the XS version since it had the features I wanted but had to settle on the XSE which is very similar. One thing that I preferred from the XS, was the Novak type rear sight. I solved this on my XSE by installing a Chip McCormick "drop in" low mount rear sight. This sight is extremely easy to install and looks great on the XSE.
It's bottom is rounded and it fits the rounded top of the XSE slide perfectly. It looks better than the sight on the XS and matches up nicely with the factory front sight. Highly recommended!

Could you explain the mounting system? Does the sight itself screw onto some kind of base that is drivin into the dovetail? It does look like a very good dexign, if it stays put.

That's exactly how it works. You simply drive out your old sight with a punch, then you install the base in the dovetail. The base goes in very easily. Once the base is installed, the actual sight mounts to the base with a allen screw.

It's my understanding that the adjustment's are made with the front sight (if dovetailed).
The post front with rear will not be adjustable from what I gather, since the rear matchs the slide.
