Money and the number made with Tier III being the most common and cheapest. I would look at gunbroker to get an idea on current pricing.

I liked the Tier III as it was the most authentic looking one. Like most current Colts, however, the slide could have stood more polishing before bluing.

If I'm not mistaken, there was only 1 tier I made. Tier II's have a very nice blueing and some engraving. Teir III's look a lot like the 1918 repo's with different roll marks.

I'll just say that the ANIV III black oxide pistol may be better than any other one.

I own one. I also own several other Colt 1911's.

I'd suggest that you watch the FS threads (not here) and buy one.

It's hard enough to find a Colt 1911. It's rare to find a Colt ANIV III.

For anyone interested and in the area, the FT Hood PX had a O1911ANVIII for just a little over 1,100 earlier this week when I picked up a Commander...don't know how that shakes out in the pricing but it looked nice.

Picked my 2nd ANVIII at the Ft Polk PX during their "Gun Show" 13-15 Dec 2013. All guns were 10% off. Slightly different than my first one; barrel link pin comes out, new one it dosen't. Both fun to shoot.

A local dealer (WA) has an ANVIII for "only" $1399.
