colt for competiton

I am looking into getting a colt for competition. there are a few i could possibly get, but what series should i look for? i'd like to modify it so take that into consideration. the guns are a few years old, but are in mint condition, sitting in my grandfather's safe. They are probably model 70s and i remember seeing mk iv on one of them. just throw out some ideas and thoughts for me. thanks

What kind of competition?
The Double Eagle is a piece of Colt's history, their attempt to make a big-bore, DA service pistol. It didn't meet with much success, but it's not a bad gun. It would be suitable for USPSA/IPSC Production division, and IDPA Stock Service Pistol division.
