Colt Magazine Help

1076 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  ADP3
A 1944 Colt just returned home after an absence of several years. I sold it to one of my best friends about 10 years ago with the stipulation that if he sold it I could have first refusal at the same price he paid me. He's buying a house so the Colt is back in my possession. It has the same magazine in it as when I originally bought it, parkerized with an "L" on the toe of the floor plate. Is this correct for a 1661XXX Colt? Is there a source for proper magazines to match up if it isn't? I work 6 days a week so getting to a gun show isn't a good option right now.
Many Thanks,
ADP3

RE: Magazine

The magazine you have was made by Little for Rem. Rand, Ithaca and
US&S 1911's. If it were Colt contract it would be stamped " C-L ".
My 1943 Colt 1911A1 has a Scovill mfg. magazine stamped " C-S ".

Magazine

The original magazine would have been blued. The phosphate finish indicates that the magazine went through rebuild. Look for a blued magazine marked C-L, C-R, or C-S on the bottom of the toe and the corresponding L, R, or S on the top of the toe.
