Okay, I'm just a dummie, what's a Silver Star, When was it made, how many made, What's it worth NIB? Shoot it or not shoot it?
Packaged in typical '80s Colt box, brown in color. Gun is fully nikle plated and inscribed "silver star .45" in large letters on the slide. Never saw one before and can't find in the ol' blue book....help!

I am not an expert, but I have never heard of a colt silver star. Could it be a custom gun? Wish I could be more help. I am curious now as to wether anyone else knows anything about it.

No, it's not a custom gun, it's a New in the box Colt, from Colt. I can't seem to find info on her anywhere though.

Does the gun itself say "Colt" anywhere?

I've seen stranger things put into Colt boxes.

I've never heard of it either.

Somebody is selling one on the USPSA classified ads. Here's what they have to say about it:

Manufactured in 1985, only 1000 of these were made, Serial # SS541. Produced by the Colt Custom Shop in 45ACP with a bright nickle finish. This Colt is brand new and comes in a Colt Wooden Presentation box.

Leave it alone and get a Series 70 GC or something. Because 1) I don't know if its a Colt. 2) It took 10 to 12 days for you to get a response. Don't mess with the junk dude. Get the real deal, Colt 1911 (1912-2001).

I'm new to the forum, with a rare Colt, so it's obviously junk? Yes, it is a real Colt, as I mentioned before. Serial # is ss0xx. Custom shop, 1 of 1000 Colt? Yeah, sounds like a pile of ****, Redzone....guess I'll sell it for $150 and buy the "real thing. Paten, thanks alot for the investigative work, I really appreciate it. Shane, there are no "dumb" questions, as I am sure you know this stuff better than me. But yes, it is a real Colt.

Don't get all sensitive, I was saying don't mess with the junk. Not your gun is junk. And it is a Colt too, fantastic. I guess what I meant to say is, " only get well made 1911s, such as Colt". Also I think there was a Rolls Royce called a Silver Star.

I went to a gun store today and I noticed
the Silver Star as well. The manufacturer
IS Colt. From what the dealer told me, these
were made in the early 80's and were one
of the first nickle finish guns Colt came out
with. Not very many were made. We couldn't
find it in the blue book. The dealer was
asking $900. It was used but in 99% condition. How much was your dealer asking
for the NIB?
I'm going to call up Colt on Monday and
ask them about the Silver Star but I couldn't
decide on the Silver Star or a Colt 1911
in 38 Super. I probably shouldn't get one
right away since I just bought a brushed
nickel Desert Eagle .50AE

My first automatic, and my first COLT was a commercial model nickle purchased new in 1969. NEW price was $135. Bought a Colt ACE kit for $125. Eventually sold both to a buddy for less than $200. Nickle has been around for a while.

Only Colt, old, new, custom, stock, NIB, S/S, blue, nickle, 5", 4", 3.5",10rnd mag, 8rnd mag, 7rnd mag, wood, plastic, ivory, .22LR, .38 Super, 9mm, .45ACP, .40S&W, .41A&E, enhanced, pre or post war, front serrations, beavertail grip safety, adj. match trigger, two tone frame-slide, heavy or light recoil spring, reload or factory ammo, fmj or jhp or no preference, extended slide release-ambi thumb safety, wide spur hammer-Commander, buffer usage?

This is my only Colt. I just like to shoot. I shoot JHPs as often as I can, but economy forces me to shoot alot of FMJ stuff to. I like the white box Winchester stuff for economy ammo, and Corbon +Ps for hollows. I shoot primarrily 9mm stuff. Yeah, I 'm a Glock guy, I know that will win me no friends here, but hey, they work. I'd like a nice 1911 to shoot, but that'll hafta wait for soom $ to come in.

I saw two Silver Star 1911s for sale on Gunsamerica. They were asking $1200 and $1300. They were also listed as polished stainless, custom shop editions.

I just got off the phone with Colt.
According to them, only 1000 of them were
made by the custom shop in 1985. That would explain the low serial number I saw at my local dealer.
