Has anybody read the June 2001 issue of Comabt Handguns? Specifically, can you tell me about the Auto Ordnance WWII 1911 review? Was it good or bad? (My local bookstore doesn't carry this particular magazine, so I'd appreciate any info about this review.) Thanks.

Whoops, this is the "Magazine" forum, as in ammo magazines, not periodicals! Boy, is my face red! Oh well.

CH gave the Kahr AO a glowing review, as they do with most guns in their magazine. I tend to believe this one though do to the fact that if Kahr is overseeing the operation and manufacture of the gun it should be very well made. Gun appears to be about as milspec as one can get commercially and if I recall correct, it showed a retail price in the $450 range.

If the hammer is any indication (from the photographs) the pistol is cast or parts are, the casting seam was well visible in the atricle.

I have to agree that, based on the quality of the Kahr pistols, the A/O's should be good (read: better than before) since Kahr Arms bought the marque. On the other hand, wouldn't it be nice if somebody could make them the old way, as in firing-up an old WWII production line as opposed to using some of the new production methods? But, do not doubt that some (or all) of these methods would have been used back then had they been available, as they make more, better parts at a lower price (at least in the military, we-need-a-bunch-now context).

My Mom and Dad made 1919 Browning machineguns and M-1 carbines during WWII. They are fascinated with some of the modern production methods. Dad turned 86 today-- and I still am getting good stories from his days in the gun plant!

Hey, that would be great! Would you like me to e-mail you my mailing address, or did you have something else in mind?

I hope the quality of the AOs have improved since the 1980's, because they were a real POS back then. I bought their version of a 1911A-1 and it was the original jamamatic. I traded it on my first Randall. Best gun trade I ever made.
