How much is involved in shortening a Commander's grip frame to the same length as an Officers Model? Is there anything beyond lopping a 1/2" off the bottom of the grip frame, drilling a new MSH retaining pin hole, drilling new lower grip screw holes and installing bushings, and replacing the MSH and grip panels? Forgive me if these are offensively stupid questions.

Not stupid at all. The main problem that you have is that the cut outs under the grips go too low on most frames to allow a place to drill & tap for the lower grip screw bushing. Caspian frames do leave steel there. About the only fix for a frame with a low cut out is to weld in a filler plate on each side.
Argghhh! Knew I was forgetting something. OK--thanks. Other than that (and the things I mentioned in my first post), is there anything else involved in such a conversion? Thanks again.
