Have a chance to pick up this RIA FS Tac II 10 mm at a pretty good price IMHO. I helped the range gunsmith reassemble it couple weeks ago. When owner got it and others home he disassembled 4 RIA 1911A-1s and mixed up all the parts. You can imagine what happened. Early this week the gunsmith told me what happened and asked me for help. Looked through the parts and picked out the “ correct looking” parts. I did a very simple trigger job on pistol, put it back together and gunsmith loved it. He calls the owner and now its for sale, and offered it to me. Have been a Colt guy for over 50 years and recently bought a Canik and Tisas. BTW, good friend has one , did a trigger job on his and fired a mag, was impressed. and he is tickled pink with his. If I get it will have to buy reloading dies, .40 bullets, shell holder and expensive ammo. So, whats the general opinion of these RIA’s?????

I have one, it’s a respectable shooter. I haven’t shot it a great deal, but I have not had any issues with fail to feed, failure to eject and that sort of thing. As you already know, it’s pretty heavy and I don’t think it would be my choice to carry. I think mine was somewhere around 600 bucks a number of years back.

FYI, I handled a Ruger 10 mm last week and was very impressed. I had an internal argument all the way home as to whether I should turn around and buy it. Just on the feel of the weapon, if I had to pick between the two, I would go with the Ruger.
I have five .45 caliber pistols, and of those five, I shoot an RIA better than the others, including a Colt out of the Custom Shop. I also have a 10mm RIA that is much smoother than the previous Colt 10mm I had. I consider them a good, solid-performing pistol at a friendly price.
No, they aren't as refined as a Colt, Springfield, or Tisas, for that matter, but they are good, solid, decent pistols at a budget price.
Thanks for the reply's, still “ on the fence” about it. Who has the early Colt 10 mm? and how do they function. Had a chance to pick up one last year for around $1,200.00 and thought ,I don’t need another caliber. That is whats bugging me.
I have the RIA model in 10 mm and 9mm you are talking about in the 1ST post. They are decent pistols and hit where they are aimed. If you don’t have a 10 it might be at the right price to acquire one.

New my 10mm cost just shy of 800 bucks out the door. Used my 9mm cost just shy of 500 out the door.

they are heavy so the recoil isn’t an issue and they just shoot well.
Yeah I would probably buy it. Its a good looking gun and I’d love to have a 10mm
That RIA looks like one of the Lipsey's deals. I bought the same gun in gray cerakote. Mine is over the 2,000 round count and performing admirably. If you did not buy it yet, go for it. What's another caliber? 😁

I don't reload, but 10mm around here is cheaper than .45.
Well, you could always order dies, gage, etc - and a $60 SARCO "400 Cor bon" barrel.. Now you can approach 10mm Auto with 45auto brass ;-)
If the price feels right to you, I'd go for it. I have a RIA plain Jane GI and am happy with it. The upgraded models look great to me. During the last shortage, I nearly got a 10mm simply because Armscor (RIA) had a huge pile of 10mm for sale.
if you can get an m451 look at RIA prices, go for it
Thanks for the reply's, going to talk to the owner.
Owning both the Tisas Service Special and the Rock Island they are both pretty much even. The Tisas is a very well built pistol for the money, but it lacks in features. In order to bring the Tisas up to the standards of the Rock Island you would almost double the cost of it. They both shoot about the same as far as groups, but the RIA has a better finish being that it is parkerized and the Tisas is Parkerized with a Cerikote finish that will wear off over time, their fore looking like s*** after little use. They both are great pistols for the money but RIA edges out in the end with lower cost and more features. The only thing I dis like about the Rock is the Ambi Safety, I can do without that feature as I never use it being right handed. But my son who shoots some of my pistols is wrong handed and he likes it.
Well, picked up the 10 mm. To the range and found it was a jam o matic, usual culprit extractor. Not having time to devote to fixing finally got the Colt Series 80 10/9 mm extractor to function just racking slide through a complete magazine. Back to range next week to check actual fire function. Hoping for the best but have another extractor ordered. Also did a complete clean up of internals, about a 4 pound trigger now. Will post target and results.
The rock island extractors are not the best. I usually replace them with egw extractors .Much better quality and reasonably priced.
Don't much care for 10mm. I think it's the most overrated cartridge there is unless you're talking about bear defense.

Gotta be careful picking your ammo because a lot of 10mm ain't any more powerful than 40 S&W, so don't skimp.

But yes, it's worth it if you enjoy it. Just because I think it's overrated doesn't mean it's not effective. What makes it good is that you have the power of a 357 magnum but with the rapid fire capabilities of the 1911.

Congrats on your purchase.
10 mm loaded correctly is Very impressive and its in a 1911. I’ll reload a bunch, they will be fine. One needs to remember the old saying, “ if going to a gun fight bring a pistol that starts with 4 and a rifle that starts with 3”.

This is why I love America!, people can care about different things, spend their own money on what they like, and speak up about their POV on any subject they want to spout off about.

OP, Congratulations on your RIA 1911 purchase!
just remember, it's not overrated when it comes to bears and having closer to .41 magnum power in a 1911.
and it's not overrated when it comes to having fun either, nor when choosing to shoot 135gr or 220 gr bullets at any number of velocities you want. And every 1911 owner that has a .45 and a 10mm, and hand loads, knows the 10mm is cooler.

of course, it's not just my opinion

Thank you! Been around Colt 1911s for over 50 years. Tisas was first non Colt now this RIA 10 mm is second. Opinions are like, ….well we know . Have friends that have killed Big pigs with their 10 mm, 1 round of handload and pigs were DRT. I may go pig hunting now.
Hope the extractor problem is resolved. Tried 3 supposed 10 mm extractors, none would fit. Said heck with it, pulled out my general civilian 1911 parts bin and stared trying extractors. Bingo on second on! Required very little fitting so to range tomorrow.
