I sit here very amused. In other posts, I have stated my feelings to the anti gun community (preaching to the quire here
)and to the ones with there statements that I diretly debated. Low and behold those who told me I have no need of guns ARE the same who are now asking me if they can borrow some of mine! All the medical types at my wifes job who chastised her when she opened her mouth about our weekend shooting activities are now the ones spouting how they dug out grampas old beet up so and so and have it by the front door now, Just In Case! I always preach. It gets me in many debates. I cant believe my ears that these very same people are now standing in line to beg borrow or buy a gun. My little revenge is to make them admit to me that they were wrong!!! Anyone else having these experiences.

What is even more depressing is the ones that want to take away more of our liberty, just so they can feel safer.

Some right here on this forum.

Double Tap. It is depressing that people who trust themselves with arms can't trust others. Personally, I'd rather be armed.
I must admit certain things were beyond my comprehension. I've learned much from this forum. I find it singularly amazing that people like the ones in that RATM thread can even exist, I know it's their right but really, how can someone live/be a citizen in this country and preach it's destruction.
I've learned from the LEO section that people actually try to take police sidearms away from officers! I'd never have thought anyone could be so foolish!! Maybe I'm the anachronism, harkening back to a time long past, but it seems to me that in WWII there were armed civilians in patrols. It wasn't to deny rights, but it was the ultimate neighborhood watch.
The point to this rant is that while disagreeing with the disarm the nation bunch, I can see how those without a socialist/communist agenda could get easily caught up in the hysteria. Somehow the good and decent people of this great nation have bought into the notion that only bad guys have guns. Maybe they just need to be shown how the difference between the bad guys and the good guys is that the good guys only use force as a last resort when confronted with deadly attacks.

Yea, eveyone here at work thought I was the nut case. Well, they still do, but now they are asking which gun they can borrow. I point them in the direction of the nearest gun shop and explain that they better get theit own while they still can. I know Wal-Mart is almost out of ammo.

Swallow your pride and offer to take them to the range to teach them how to safely handle a gun. Be understanding and compassionate. This is a chance to convert a few anti's and is no time for "I told you so". They're asking for help because their thought system is failing them.

But make it clear that you couldn't loan a gun to anyone who hadn't demonstrated the ability to handle it responsibly. Impress them with your thoughtfulness and willingness to help.

Really. Do it. We'll all thank you.

Oh believe me, I am not missing any opportunity to make some converts! I always have open invitations to the range for all that will go. I always have free time to teach anyone that wants to learn. My point is more along the lines that those who so vehemently felt treading on my rights for my reasoning was clearly wrong, now have reversed themselves in an instant. I always advise people how to and what paperwork to obtain. I try hard. As for the lending a gun part, well...in this state that is a felony. Until a recent revision in the law, if you were at the range and handed your 14 yr old son your shotgun for a go at it, you just commited a felony. It was considered an illegal firearms transfer believe it or not.

I agree in spite of my anger towards the anti's. Bottom line is we are ALL Americans and if the good Lord has given us an opportunity to bring these antis into the brotherhood, we should! We should also stress the need to join the NRA, even if we do have some issues with the organizations leadership. The fact that these new"believers" can even buy a gun is due to the efforts of the NRA. Enough of the soap box! Oh yeah!! don't forget to stress training!

yes, the "media" seems to be trumpeting that we will need to give up personal rights/freedoms for a nominal amount of safety. this is idiotic. anyone who believes that crap -- look to isreal. the people who live there have almost no personal freedoms. they are subjected to almost constant terrorist attacks, and have been for years. in trying to "shape" public opinion, the media is whistling past the graveyard.
regarding the "anti's," it always depends on whose ox might get gored.

I too am taking this time to convert as many of those who thought I was a nut case.

Any chance I get to show someone safe gun
handling and enjoyment ...I do it!
If not they may go and purchase somthing without proper training...those are the people who scare me...who do stupid things
and cause bad press for us all.
So if one of your local Tree Hugger friends
comes to you with a question or wants to
learn more about our sport...please...
Take the opportunity to help us all.

Sorry didn't mean to preach.Just how I feel.

Concerning the anti's....

I don't know about the rest of you Americans but I am personally pretty fed up with all of their anti gun B.S.. PARTICULARLY RIGHT NOW! This is no time for this garbage people. Our nation could end up needing each and every one of those armed American citizens before this crap is finished.

If you anti gun people don't appreciate our freedoms that this Great Nation was founded on LEAVE. "America, love it or leave!".

Well I spent sunday doing my part.
I took a newbie(never even held a gun before)
person to a range and started them from scratch.
It was a long day but we made a new fan
of the shooting sports.
When we got back I made him clean all the
guns he shot.

Well I thought it was part of the learning expirience. By taking the guns apart to clean them he was able to see how they work a little and have a better understanding of what to do should there be a jam or malfunction of some sort at the range.
Mabey it was a little much for the first trip to the range.
I had some good help showing him the ropes...
Ruger_P95,Bigfoot and 1/2r were there too.
Thanks guys!

The problem is that the antis only want Gun Control for everybody else, not them! Then they are indignant when they find out that it applies to them as well. I recall Charlton Heston's rich hollywood "friends" asking to borrow firearms during the L.A. riots, when they found out that the waiting period did not exempt rich movie star types.

Well I guess my problem is I am quick to take someone to the range(way before 11th). Supplying my guns and expertise in the deal. They and I had fun this weekend. But I don't trust anyone new to shooting to run a rod down my barrel.

Unfortunatly now is the time to use the same tactics as used against us. Right now the public is MUCH more open to the idea of firearms to protect ones self and family. I really believe the we the gun community, NRA, etc. should capitalize on this opportunity to publicize. The more converts now, less problems later. Bring out the stats from the CCW states vs. non CCW!

Can you tell I live in MD?

Brings to mind a few conversions of people:
1. Those who looked at the veterans and the patriotic of this country as "extremists" before the attack are now seeing what we have been able to see all along.
2. Those who used to be against capital punishment now want Osama Bin Laden dead, or even more, devastate Afghanistan with nuclear bombs.
3. Those as mentioned in the original post of gun converts.

When my philosophies and convictions before and after an event are not only unchanged, but approved by a majority of a population, I know that my convictions are true and valid. They don't faulter in adversity or in reality.

Is this original or not? I'd like to use it, but give credit where credit is due.
