so far only geminicustom has my attention for their ultimate workup. Have a 8 shot redhawk 357 ready to go! spring advise well taken, thanks. These are edc pieces, not competition. They must work 100% when called on.Ruger Redhawk…find a smith that knows Ruger revolvers. Good action job, Bowen or equivilent extended firing pin, front and rear sight you like which meets the shooting use requirements. Also use the stock mainspring (action spring). Lighter springs in DA shooting can cause light primer strikes. Also buy a couple extra mainsprings if you plan on a sizable amount of DA work be ause the spring can fatigue pretty quick.
In the Redhawks the action spring (mainspring) works as both a return spring and a mainspring. If you DA pull the trigger slowly you’ll see the hammer drops much further forward than when in SA mode. A good bit of momentumnis lost. Hence, 30 and 40 pound mainspring as opposed to the stock 17 - 20 pound spring.I have a 5.5' 44 Mag Redhawk. Long story short one of my very favorite handgun. I installed a Clark rear sight on it, but this is not a defensive sight. I did the timing, action work, and fitted a new front cylinder latch. The action is sweet and smooth. I have shot a few 1 1/4" - 1 1/2" groups with it...off a rest... at 50 yards with reloaded ammunition. I am very confident with it shooting some factory loads as well.
I can understand you desiring it in 357 for edc. My experience with the Redhawk...I would choose another edc firearm.
