Looking for feedback on the Dan Wesson CZ Heritage 1911. I've heard some good things but am considering another Springfield as well, but I can get the DW for $1200 with two new mags. Is the DW the way to go?

DW makes an excellent pistol. The 2010 models all have bar stock sears, hammers, discos etc. Forged frames and made in the US.

I currently own one Dan Wesson and one Springfield. In the past I have owned several other Springfields.
The Sa's are very good guns and SA has the best customer service, but the Dan Wesson is the better gun. IMHO.:)

All I can offer is some more of the same you have already heard. The Springfield 1911s are very good guns. They shoot well and hold up well and I would choose one of their higher end models before I got a Kimber or Colt. But if I were given my choice The Dan Wesson would be on the top of the list. I have an 09 CCO and a 2010 Guardian on order and if I had the money I would have a Valor and a VBOB on order. The Heritage isn't really my style so I'll leave them in the store for you to get cause their isn't a better 1911 out there right now.

I love my Heritage. It is smooth, accurate and reliable. It is made with QUALITY components and for the price it is extremely well fit. I like it so much I am bobbing it's tail so I will always know which one is mine. Mine is an early 2009 model and from what I understand, the 2010 models use even better components. I have had Colts and Springfields (still do) and for a similarly priced offering, I believe the Heritage is a better value and a better machine.

Here is a pic before bobtailing ...

Now go get one ... you won't regret it!

I haven't owned an SA but I've handled them, and IMO the fit, finish, and overall quality of the DW is far superior.

Having said that, I have seen noticeable variation in slide-to-frame fit, as well as grip safety fit on Dan Wesson's, and would recommend that you personally inspect the weapon you are considering prior to purchase.

JMHO.

Just got one and think it's a good pistol.
The slide to frame fit on mine is excellent
I like my Valor better but I am very happy I got the Heritage.
I will use it for carry and after having used a bunch of semi custom 1911's in the past for carry ... this Heritage is a great value for how good of a gun it is..

While the advice is sound, I think the concern is overstated.

I just got a new heritage, I don't have any experience with the springfield 1911's but can say the fit and workmanship on my heritage is outstanding, I would recommend it highly, don't think you could possibly be sorry with the heritage.

Great feedback from all, I really appreciate it. I'm new to this forum and am really impressed with the prompt feedback. Thanks to everyone, my mind is made up - the DW will be my choice. As soon as I get it, I'll post some pics.

Re: Dan Wesson Heritage vs. Springfield TRP

Ok, I know it's been quite some time since I posted this thread. Here is the bottom line: I can get a new stainless Springfield TRP for $1399 or a new Dan Wesson Heritage for $1250. I've heard great things about both and was thinking about finally making a purchase as soon as this weekend. Looking for some last few bits of advice:

1. Does the bull barrel on the TRP give a substantial edge to the Springfield?
2. Are the trigger jobs similar?
3. Is there a huge difference in a forged or cast frame?
4. Anything else I need to consider?

Please let me hear from you - pics will soon follow.
