I have a new Dan Wesson Specialist in 9mm. The pistol is shooting high with a .180 front sight.

Can anyone advise what distance and sight picture DW uses for their zero.

What sight heights do they normally use? I think there are only 3 sight heights.

Last, does DW still offer the service of sending in the slide for a sight replacement?

.180 is the tallest we have and the standard. Everyone sees and shoots differently which makes it impossible to satisfy everyone's needs. We only offer .140, .160 and .180 for standard sights. I would suggest Dawson Precision as they make sights in all manor of sizes to meet your needs. If you can tell me how high your impacts are to your point of aim and at what distance, I can recommend a front sight height.

Keith: I hope all is well, and thanks for the reply to my message. I am shooting about 2" high. But I want to run more rounds thru the Specialist prior to making a decision. Can you advise the distance and sight picture (bullseye or point of aim) that is used at the factory?

Do you folks still offer returning the slide for a front sight change over?

It does not matter how the gun is set up. What matters is how it suits you and your style/ needs. Defiantly shoot the gun more and provide some hard data. Thanx

You will want a front sight that is .020-.030" taller. The height is measured from the top of the blade to the top of the slide.

Contact shooters supply and tell them you need the higher sight for a DW. They’ll hook you up.

The tallest front we have is .180 which is what you should have. Dawson Precision has all kinds of sights, most in .010" increments. You need a Novak base cut and your current sight blade is .125" wide. Rear sights only come in one height.
